I've given my little personal website another update, where I've added a bit more content to the recommendations and also the corresponding links to the products and services I recommend - just hover over them with your mouse pointer and you'll see where to go.

There are also a few YouTube channels at the end that I highly recommend to anyone interested in privacy and security.

Dear Graphene OS team - first things first: I LOVE Graphene OS on my Pixel 9! It's great to see Graphene getting better and better every time!

But there is one thing I miss: the possibility of using a privacy-friendly smartwatch that records basics such as steps, heart rate, maybe simple sleep tracking, basic sports such as walking, running, Nordic walking or cycling and, above all, displays messages such as calls, SMS, signal or mail on the watch when you don't have your smartphone at hand or can't use it (meeting, driving, etc.).

So my question to you: the Pixel Watch has connectors that can supposedly be used not only to charge the watch but also to transfer data - wouldn't it be possible to create a de-googled Wear OS for the Pixel Watch, a perfect combination for a Graphene OS Pixel with a matching privacy-friendly smartwatch? Many thanks for an answer and best regards from Vienna!

And while we're at it, Proton team: is it really that difficult to make a color mixer for the Proton calendar so that you can assign your own and, above all, more and different colors to the calendars? Like ALL other providers such as Google, Microsoft or Nextcloud have?

The few colors you have to choose from hardly look any different, and with several calendars there are far too few. Please make some improvements here and get up to date. Then everything would be perfect and I could finally take out a full subscription. But like this...

I ask the Linux community to support this cause: Proton has been offering native clients for Windows and macOS for their Proton Drive for years - but still none for Linux!

This company claims to be fighting against Big Tech and for privacy, and forgets about the ONLY platform that really guarantees data protection and privacy. And treats Linux very neglectfully. Surely that can't be possible? What about you, Proton? Is everything really consecrated to the mainstream and the god of sales?

The more Linux users in the Proton community get involved, the sooner a native application for Linux will hopefully be available. Please share and spread the word! Thank you, folks!

Have you prayed today? 😎

Steve Jobs which art in heaven,

hallowed be your name.

Thy business model come.

Thy will be done, as in Cupertino so at the Apple keynote.

Give us today our daily customer exploitation.

And forgive us our criticism, as we gladly give you our last dollar.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from old hardware at expensive prices.

For thine is the upselling, the walled garden and 60 Hz on the iPhone and iPad forever.

Amen!

What a load of shit! Yesterday I installed #Windows 11 24H2 on one of my computers because I wanted to have a look at what's new.

And - in best #Microsoft style - I was immediately negatively surprised. Contrary to M$'s promises, #RECALL is activated by default! And without any indication.

Redmond has promised that Recall is an OPT-IN function. But screw the customer! An unbelievable scandal and a very bad joke, Microsoft!

Nobody in their right mind should use this spyware and advertising spam spinner Windows 11 anymore!

And if you have already updated to 24H2, here's a quick guide on how to check if Recall is already silently enabled and how to disable it:

  1. start Windows Powershell AS ADMINISTRATOR

  1. query recall status, whether active or deactivated:

dism /Online /Get-FeatureInfo /FeatureName=Recall

  1. if active, then deactivate as follows:

dism /Online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:“Recall”

Reboot, for security reasons.

But be careful: with every Windows update, Recall can be activated again silently and secretly!

And best of all, if you haven't already done so: switch to Linux or BSD! The time is more than ripe!

The Intel i5-10500 installed in this ProDesk is almost as old as my current Ryzen (and doesn't have the same performance, AMD is simply better), but it's enough for my needs. If it weren't for all the problems with my current Tiny PC, I wouldn't even have to look for a replacement, as the performance is ok. But on the other hand, I need more excuses to spend money... 😎 😆

My old Tiny PC is getting more and more buggy, among other things the USB ports no longer work properly, whether the ones directly on the back of the mainboard or the two on the front of the case, which are connected to the MB with a cable... plus the already old Ryzen 5 3400G processor...

The situation really calls for something “new”, and in this case I would like to fall back on a refurbished device. It doesn't always have to be new, and many business devices are still more than usable. Especially with Linux. Besides, I already have a new device with the Beelink SER7.

After a bit of research, I'm currently considering an HP ProDesk 600 G6 SFF. I like the modular chassis concept, everything is easily accessible and well thought out. No comparison with cheap customer devices.

To illustrate this, I'll link an HP support video showing how well swapping components works. Now I just have to find a good offer...

Ok, ok, ok... I've softened my strict rules of absolute digital minimalism a bit and allowed some additional apps on my Pixel 9.

Compared to the previous setup, I installed Aurora Store at short notice to get the following apps installed:

Firefox (instead of Fennec, because of faster security updates), FUTO Keyboard (because of swipe function, it types much faster!), Fossify Gallery (instead of the standard gallery), standard SMS app instead of QUIKSMS, Pixel Camera (much better image quality, but completely without permissions! ), Localsend (for sending photos and files back and forth between Pixel and PC), Mullvad VPN (catch me!), Proton Pass (changed all passwords to long, complicated ones) and as a visual gimmick: Breezy Weather (so that the home screen doesn't look so boring).

Judge me now.

It sucks so much... I was actually hoping that the update to KDE 6.2 would get rid of various annoying bugs, but no, the usual problem with linking online calendars still exists. Over time, no more synchronization and if you want to remove the calendar from KOrganizer, the entire KDE desktop freezes, the CPU runs forever at 100 percent and the fan rotates like a helicopter in steep flight. One way to stop this was a hard reset. Thanks, that's just not how it works! So - once again - a fresh clean install with GNOME. These problems simply don't exist there. But the look is just very clunky and not so elegant. There's always something...
