For those of you with accounts on toot.wales, maintenance and migration is taking longer than expected but it seems that everything is under control.

Here's the blog for status updates during downtime: https://blogs.toot.wales/toot/

Got insomnia, made a spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oj2wdLwTeTYvZLsGemuxmrp9x2gShRG7XKhjrHNXCzY/edit

It pulls information from @eloquence's https://bit.ly/eXit and makes a list of the biggest names who've left Twitter, where they've gone, and which services are likely to be attracting the most new users who follow them.

TL;DR: More but smaller accounts on the list have moved to Mastodon, and fewer but bigger accounts have moved to Threads. Bluesky is somewhere in the middle.

I clicked "reject" and Screwfix gave me this rubbish. It hit 83% and then stopped.

You're not fooling anyone, Screwfix! Everyone knows this doesn't take any time. 🙄

If you see an #introduction post by someone who seems interesting, regardless of whether or not you decide to follow them, please boost/RT!

The Fediverse (Mastodon, Pixelfed, etc) is sort of fragmented by nature, and the good posts only make it to other servers if people boost/reblog/RT.

People follow hashtags, so posts will get seen and boosted by more people if they have hashtags in them.

Us smaller servers on the peripheries really rely on boosts to get the good stuff! If you thought a post was good, especially if it has a hashtag in it - BOOOST IIIITTTT

Hey, UK people, what's a good online shop for buying a little hard drive for backing up some files, and what's a good brand?

Edit: Sorted, thanks folks! :)

6.5 years since I requested the ability to export and import filters on Mastodon when migrating your account 😭

https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/9177

If you're into this idea, please add a 👍 emoji reaction (you'll need a Github account) or boost...

UK petition: Do not stop transgender people from receiving care in mainstream hospital wards

Sign: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/703861

Gender-segregated wards uphold the deeply sexist pretence that people with penises are inherently dangerous. It's an admission that hospitals will not try to keep people safe from dangerous people.

Deadline: 9 July 2025

ADHD's like, great, now I'm surrounded by the optimal number of distractions and immediately redeemable rewards, I can finally get that important thing done

Edit: Also, it always helps if the deadline is a bit close and there's something worse that you'd rather not do.

You know that thing where you get a weird injury and when it looks gross/freaky you get the urge to show someone to get them to go "ewwwwww!"

Do you think that's like, part of our evolutionary wiring, to get us to tell people when we're hurt so they can help treat it and prevent infection/death, so that we can go on to have babies etc?

Someone at our makerspace is struggling with the laser cutter, and it's a problem I've never run into before, I've never seen anything like it - so I thought I'd ask here and check if anyone has any clues.

They're trying to make boxes using this box generator: https://boxes.hackerspace-bamberg.de The box shapes export as SVGs.

The laser cutter is a HPC LS3060 with 50W CO2 laser, connected to the makerspace laptop with a USB cable.

And the laser cutter software is Lightburn on Windows. The files end in ".lbrn2".

Basically, everything looks perfect in Lightburn, including in preview. But when they go to cut, even when each individual shape is in a different layer, the laser will put extra cuts in or randomly move off at a strange angle and make cuts that aren't in the Lightburn file. (See photos of errors attached.)

Have you ever seen anything like this? If so, did you ever work out the cause?
