Might also be time to get caught up on #IPFS ? In 2020, I built this fun/janky #RaspberryPi console to access it & print files onto thermal receipt paper.

I used Tinkercad to design some custom LEGO bits for #3DPrinting , to mount the guitar strap, arcade buttons, and 3mm acrylic~

I just looked back at this and read the ELECTRA sign as "TREACLE". Now I wanna go to that cocktail bar and order a hot toddy with ginger + treacle. ("Treacle Heart"?)

Plus one with hot, American-style apple cider + whiskey + custard float?? A Bramley's Apple Sigh? Sounds cozy & comforting.

Took my infrared-modded digital camera to #LasVegas for CES, to capture some of the infinite neon there... discovered many different types of heat lamps :)

Anyway, it's a lovely language, with a lilting quality that makes me replay some of the longer sentences just to hear them again.

And you can clearly see some places where Tolkien took inspiration for Elvish! My little high-school heart is happy :D

I'm finding it pretty approachable as a multilingual native English speaker. So far (so far!!), there don't seem to be a lot of suffixes to juggle for conjugation, adjectives, or possessives.

That said, there's a hard/soft duality at some word boundaries, which will take me a minute to fully grok (coch/choch, wyn/gwyn, tafarn/dafarn...). Should probably just look it up!

Some are close to other Romance languages: mêl (honey), eglwys (church), nos (night), yr Almaen (Germany)...

"Siop lyfrau" (bookshop) combines both English and Romance cognates!

The days of the week are generally pretty Romantic (dydd Llun/Mawrth/Mercher...) – except Saturday (dydd Sadwrn).

Once you learn the spelling conventions, lots of words are close cognates to English: ciwb (cube!), siaced (jacket), brecwast (breakfast), ysgol (school), afal (apple), Sbaen (Spain)...

Some are similar to archaic or uncommon English words! Ffrog (dress/frock), perthyn (belong/pertain), tafarn (bar/tavern), hosan (sock/hose)...

I've been picking up some Welsh on Duolingo (likely inspired by @suearcher ), and it is a DELIGHT! Here are some cool things I've noticed so far.

(This is in spite of the app's awful AI rollout, which is straight-up wrong at times... but that's a topic for another day 😅)

I should kick off this thread with Archimedes, the #owl #CompanionBot in the first pic! Made him for #BayArea #MakerFaire in May '18, with a #RaspberryPi brain, then updated in '21 with an #Arduino for motor control.

I've been working on smaller versions since then – including Nano'Medes here, with #origami wings – and plugging away at the new "Prince Stolas" version. Both use my Companion Core PCB (more on that soon!) 🦉🤖💙✨

An interesting thing from Supercon this year: people used to talk about my "infectious enthusiasm"; this time, I heard "cult of personality".

It struck at my last few years in burnout—which have kept me from BUILDING and SHARING, in favor of just kinda going "oo shiny!" & "I built a thing once." It hasn't felt great.

To be clear, it's still a sort of compliment. But I want to be known as a creative & curious Builder – not just a conspicuous hairstyle & perky demeanor.

Slowly coming back! 🫶
