Dismal Wizard checked the trees Sunday afternoon. The trashy maples are growing a green halo of leaf and flower buds. The maples usually flower around Groundhog Day. The pines are about 6 weeks later. Life moves on in spite of the cold snap.

My barber says she wouldn’t consider an EV because battery replacement is an expensive risk. She doesn’t realize how often ICE motors fail and was unaware of the GM pickup/SUV V8 debacle. GM is on the hook to replace 875,000 V8 engines on NHTSA recall for a lubrication design flaw that causes connecting rod bearing failure and the occasional busted block.

Replacing an engine with a new crate motor is a $21,000 repair.

Rocky’s pictures came and back from the radiologist. 13 cm tumor in his lung with nodules throughout the lung. Not a surgery candidate.

Rocky remains a very keen to chase greyhound. Yesterday while schlepping in mower batteries, Rocky poked his head into our one surviving azalea. Out popped a hare. Drag race to the aucuba fence. Hare won.

Still comfortable, active, and eating. Expect 6 months post diagnosis with maybe 3 good.

Oh, dear! A category 3 brass monkey advisory. Coming cold will freeze the bits off a medium sized brass monkey. And take a hunk out of many January budgets.

Design basis heating outdoor temperature is 24.4F. 99% of hours in a year are warmer.
