I've been working on another track for a few days. I guess that makes it more than just a jam? I went to bed thoroughly dejected about it last night, but had another listen this afternoon, tweaked a few things, and now I'm much happier with it. Still, it's maybe 60-70% done. I don't know if all this time spent will make it any better, but whatever.

A silly throw away jam. All beats. All with sample sounds from various drum packs. #jamuary2025

ok... it seems like the channels with # are latest last, but the speech bubble ones are the opposite and more announcement related.

Am I crazy or...

Not a big fan of discord, but sometimes that's where the action is on a particular subject, so trying to get reacquainted with it.

I'm seeing some subjects (... channels?) being sorted with most recent replies at the bottom, and some in reverse - most recent on top. This is within a single server. It seems random. I didn't sort anything, I don't think. What am I missing?

Well now I have not one, but two teensy 4.1 cases for my #dirtywavem8 headless. It helps to have family who have 3d printers. Thanks @lukepeters!! I owe you one.

Minimal meetings, planning sessions, HR red tape. Just sit down and code something cool.

It brings me back to this article, which I've referred to personally many times. https://blog.johnqian.com/startup-spark

They found the spark again. I wish them well. I hope they get a good few years in before it happens again.

We talk a lot about work / life balance and people wanting more money and benefits. And not to ignore those, but we're missing something in the conversation.

These engineers are now working on a new, greenfield project. They went back to being individual contributors, designing and creating this new product from the ground up. No junior engineers working under them, no constant repeat rounds of code reviews and managing estimates and deadlines and competing priorities.

Had an interesting and enlightening work experience last year. Three of our top end, highly productive and very smart engineers were poached by another company (the same company), all within a couple weeks. All had been with the company around 7 years.

The fascinating thing is that they took a big cut in pay for the new job and knew they'd be working much longer hours than they had been. I've talked to them and they are having a great time there.

If everyone donated a repeating $1 a month to their mastodon server admin, it could mean thousands of dollars a month to keep it going. These people shouldn't have to struggle to pay the bills.

https://www.reddit.com/search/?q=twitter+links it's really becoming quite the movement. Not claiming it's going to make any difference, but it's good to see, imo.

Some reddit, discord and other communities have started banning twitter links. Some mixed feelings - I'm not going to raise the flag and call for everyone to do it, but I'm totally supportive of those communities that make that decision.

@linuxmatters I started looking at powerline-go too, but the setup for that seems a bit much. https://github.com/justjanne/powerline-go

I just set up a starship prompt using https://starship.rs/ after hearing about it on @linuxmatters

My config is pretty stripped back. This does way more than I need or want. But it's a decent replacement for the one I had hacked together on my own years ago. I'll keep this around for a while and see how it evolves.

I was going to get a small item printed at Shapeways. I've successfully printed a number of things there before. But they shifted their business model. Not really good for one-offs these days. Any other options without a 6x markup?
