It seems worthwhile to occasionally pay attention to the ground, even in places that appear uninteresting. To be honest, I wasn’t exactly mindful at the time - though I did notice it. Anyway, I was deep in thought, walking along some dull asphalt, when my eyes landed on those flattened leaves. For the rest of the walk, I couldn’t think of anything else. Is this a subject worth capturing? Isn’t it ugly because of the asphalt?

Armed with my “proper” camera, I went back the next day to take pictures - turning a few heads in the process, as if I were documenting potholes. :-) On the day after that, I went again, hoping to find a nice layer of frost on the leaves and ground. All just to photograph dead, flattened leaves on asphalt. Crazy, but beautiful!

I really struggled with this week’s #52WochenFotoChallenge on the theme of #Vogelperspektive (“bird’s-eye view”).

The obvious ideas were out from the start - I don’t own a drone, and I have no other way to get an interesting overhead perspective. Then I toyed with the idea of a bird’s beak at the bottom of the frame - until I realized I don’t exactly have spare beaks lying around. A top-down view of bird feet on a branch? Yeah, I’m also fresh out of spare talons.

Every time I went outside this week, I wondered how I could convey the theme instantly to the viewer. I was about to skip this week’s submission when I happened to pass by the cemetery on my photo hunt today. A bunch of crows were dancing on the lawns and congregating in the trees. “There has to be a shot in this,” I thought. Then I spotted the funeral chapel windows plastered with bird-deterrent stickers - so they don’t, you know, fly into the glass. And that’s when it hit me: the perfect perspective…like you’re a feathered friend about to discover the hard way that windows aren’t exactly open skies. ;-)

A real tree - at least I hope so. After all, that’s not a given in Hobbiton. The tree right on top of Bag End is actually fake.

I appear to be riding the minimalist wave again - if I ever truly hopped off. Here’s yet another shot from yesterday’s outing. Strangely enough, nearly every photo from that day points skyward. A profound sign from the universe, maybe? Probably just the prosaic reality that the cloudless sky offered boundless negative space.

Defied the icy grip of winter for a two-hour photo hunt today - so worth it! Out of about 120 shots, a solid 18 have survived the initial purge. For now, at least. Let’s see how long they last. 🙃

One advantage of winter is that the sun sets earlier and takes its time doing so - at least around 50°N. This leaves plenty of time to review photos, have dinner, watch a movie, and still get to bed early. If only it weren’t so damn cold.

Moon enthusiasts might spot the Grimaldi Crater near the moon’s edge if they zoom in a bit - it’s the darkest spot on the front side, right next to the Ocean of Storms. And judging by the orientation, this photo was likely taken in the Southern Hemisphere - unless I managed to twist myself into some bizarre yoga pose while shooting.

I didn’t know any of this off the top of my head, of course. I spent the last hour and a half researching that mysterious dark patch on the moon’s edge and pondering why Stellarium showed the moon's crescent lit from the bottom left. Turns out, it all depends on the exact time and the quirky alignment of the moon and sun in the northern sky.

Behind the curtain lies... a window! I know, shocking plot twist. Use your imagination. 😉

Our cat 'Fanny' was a true professional today, striking poses as if she were on the cover of Vogue for the #52WochenFotoChallenge under the theme #Tier (#Animal). It's amusing how her name in English carries an entirely different undertone - proof that even a name can have a double life. In German, though, it's all innocence and charm... much like she pretends to be.

Two tiny adventurers on 52,000 tons of steel, probably arguing about whether the view was worth the climb. 134 meters above the water make Sydney's 'Coathanger' the tallest steel arch bridge in the world.

Inspired by @haraldhux@photog.social #water photo, I decided to dip my toe into the #52WochenFotoChallenge. Turns out, I need more than just a little nudge to get out and take photos - especially when it’s cold and wet outside. So naturally, I stayed inside. 😎

At first, I tried to capture dancing water droplets on a hot stovetop, but it turned out to be a little too hot to handle - juggling the camera and dripping water onto the stove was multitasking overload. So, I turned to the humble faucet. Water from the faucet isn’t exactly the pinnacle of creativity, but I had fun, and that’s what matters most!

The journey to the summit of mainland Australia's highest mountain wasn’t exactly an epic odyssey. Perhaps that’s why half the population of local schools seemed to have beaten us to the top. There’s a photo of me up there, looking less like I’ve conquered a peak and more like I’ve lost my favorite spot on the couch. But who am I to complain? I’m just another piece of the tourist puzzle. We didn’t stay long. On the way back down, I found a moment of quiet in the chaos to capture this shot – proof that even amidst the crowds, there’s always a story waiting to unfold.

Bored out of my mind during a training session, I found myself staring longingly out the window. Flocks of birds were performing aerial acrobatics against a dramatic backdrop of clouds, sun, rain, and fluttering leaves. Grabbing my phone to snap a pic felt like it might cause a scene, so I sighed and looked down at my desk - only to discover a mesmerizing little light show happening right there. Here, I could discreetly attempt a shot. And indeed, I managed to remain unnoticed.
