turns out most of my programming advice boils down to "things that change at the same time should probably live in the same place, and things that get changed at different times, should probably be kept apart" that's it

it feels trite and pretty self evident to me, but i keep walking into projects where one file gets split up over three different repos, and every change becomes cross cutting

got a "cohost never worked! it failed!" reply from someone so bitter they've set up search alerts

here's the thing: the people running cohost burned out, the original plan of "a site for supporting creative work" was axed by payment merchant rule changes

rather than "they spent all their money on react and paid themselves sub market rates!" nonsense that floats around

also it's amazing how many anti capitalists on here still think a successful business has to grow forever but heh

i know it's passé to say "well volunteered" but it would be really funny to watch certain people try and fail to run a social network

specifically for the "why would you do it this way! i can make it run on a shoebox?" people

having to explain "i would like to hang out but (a) i am very tired (b) i sleep so weirdly that i might not be awake at the right time (c) i have zero executive function to spare for planning, and (d) i haven't been drinking of late either" again

not to sound totally pathetic but, practically speaking, the only reliable way to get me out of the house is drag me to a regular event, so i don't have to plan or think about it, nor worry about missing out when i'm knackered
