I just really love how I work up the motivation to tackle one of my side projects over the weekend, and then #SwiftPackageManager refuses to let me import products from other packages I depend on and doesn't tell me why.
It's the absolute best. I love it. Please never change this. It's not like I wanted to get anything done anyway.

I spent 3 hours of my life yesterday trying to figure out why my #SwiftUI NavigationStack wasn't working, only to eventually notice that .navigationDestination() needs to be decorating the stack's root view, and not the stack itself.
Please can I have some of my life and non-gray hairs back.

Was chatting with a friend today and was finally able to vocalize one of the big things that's been nibbling at my brain.
When it comes to building mobile apps, where is our equivalent of Wordpress or Shopify or Drupal? Why is it that every single app must start over from "Hello world" and build from there?

The year is 2124. Everyone has an Apple Neural Chip embedded directly in their brain to stream non-stop entertainment. You can still only authorize up to 10 devices on your account, and still you cannot see a list of those devices and remotely deauthorize them.

Just found a wild date formatting bug that exists on at least macOS Sonoma and Sequoia (and all other platform counterparts). It's deep inside CoreFoundation (which, thankfully, the source exists for on opensource.apple.com) and has to do with CF's logic around the handling of "J" template characters in format strings.
Apple friends: A full analysis, including pinpointing the erroneous logic inside the OSS version of CFDateFormatter.c, is here: FB15432174

Somewhere inside me a rant is building about the state of EventKit and Contacts.framework on appleOS.
Potentially amazing frameworks that could enable some really fantastic productivity apps, but that have been seemingly abandoned for the past decade.

I really love how in Apple Maps I've centered right over a mall a couple miles away from my home and then when I hit enter to search for a store in that mall it zooms me over to Winnipeg, Canada thousands of miles away. That is, indeed, exactly what I wanted to have happen.

@stern AHA, i found a mention of iOS date pickers on the "Pickers" page, but there is nothing for macOS and (of course) they are no pictures in the docs for DatePicker/NSDatePicker, and they're entirely missing from the Figma components.

Defaulting stuff like this to "on" should be illegal:

@stern 🙏 can the HIG get updated to include date pickers in the "Selection and Input" section please? https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/selection-and-input
I'm trying to help my company's designer deal with other input patterns and we're both very frustrated that the docs and HIG and Figma files are all entirely devoid of date + time input components.

Today's hardware announcements look interesting, but man I really wish Apple would switch to an every-two-years schedule for phone upgrades.
Every year puts enormous pressure on the software engineers, and IMO it's starting to show. So many headline features now get pushed back to .1, .2 and .3 releases instead of .0. Shipping new hardware every year also feels really environmentally wasteful.

I really wish appleOS would record the location of wifi networks and tell you "oh yeah this wifi network? it's from a hotel in a city you were in 8 years ago and have never been back to since”

Wait, if I share an iCloud Drive folder via a link, you can't even see it on the web? You HAVE to have an Apple Account to view the folder?
What insane sort of user-hostile idiotic policy is this?! How am I supposed to share large things to non-Apple users??

Today I am reminded, once again, that #Codable is a terrible #SwiftLang API that should be excised from the language with extreme prejudice.
It's a shame that Swift 6 is already "done”; it would've been the perfect time to do it.
