THE growth of Gemini (or Geminispace) seems to have slowed down or paused, albeit not stalled indefinitely. One need not even rely just on Lupa statistics or charted graphs, which still show some growth, but not much...

It's still being tracked, showing that nearly 90% of known capsules use self-signed certificates. That's how the Web too should have done this, but creeping corporate and state interests corrupt the direction the Web has taken. The Web browsers impose centralisation through dubious CAs that work in the dark.

Gemini stats:

Gemini capsules number
Gemini certs

This is a good sign. Over time fewer capsules outsource "trust".

The total number of Gemini-related software releases and/or new posts (syndicated by us or others) isn't growing. Or just barely growing.

No reason to be alarmed.

Gemini is neither dead nor is it dying, but it no longer enjoys the same growth rate or inertia it had last year. That's just what we've been seeing, no matter if we like it or not. One might assert that 2023 was a year of stagnation for Gemini, but let's hope momentum will be regained and faster growth rates restored.

In terms of traffic, it definitely went down a bit lately, but that might mean fewer crawlers/spiders still traverse and index pages, rather than a lack of actual (human) visitors.

We'll monitor the situation and report on it in the future. █
