05:21 TR Bot; Blog Archive Reject Decades of Russophobic Propaganda

05:22 DaemonFC; schestowitz, Stallman put it a way I agree with, actually.

05:23 DaemonFC; He calls them "Putin's forces".

05:23 DaemonFC; It's legitimate to help them kill people who are there fighting for Putin.

05:23 schestowitz-TR2; DaemonFC: h264 is used a lot in mp4 iirc

05:23 DaemonFC; But most Russians don't seem to actually like Putin. If anything, they want out of there and can't get out.

05:23 DaemonFC; And if they say anything they'll be shot or arrested.

05:24 schestowitz-TR2; yes, narcissist putin

05:24 schestowitz-TR2; starving his own people

05:24 schestowitz-TR2; and sending them to die

05:24 DaemonFC; So even the appearance of lack of criticism isn't a gauge to judge them by because it's not a free or normal country where you can say "Fuck Biden" or something and nothing happens.

05:24 schestowitz-TR2; if they had proper elections, he'd be out

05:24 schestowitz-TR2; or forced to behave better, in order to get re-elected

05:25 schestowitz-TR2; DaemonFC: we have several Ukrainians and Russians here

05:25 schestowitz-TR2; and USians

05:25 schestowitz-TR2; who don't like Trump or even Biden

05:25 DaemonFC; Navalny tried to run against Putin, and not only was he cheated, he was poisoned, and then thrown in prison.

05:25 schestowitz-TR2; I dislike Borisnaro strongly

05:25 DaemonFC; It's likely that Navalny won and Putin rigged the election and released fake numbers and simply stayed.

05:25 DaemonFC; What Trump wishes he could have done.

05:26 schestowitz-TR2; never mind if the media was unfair

05:26 schestowitz-TR2; and state-controlled

05:26 schestowitz-TR2; Trump tried to forcibly take over more media

05:26 schestowitz-TR2; like VoA

05:26 schestowitz-TR2; I think it was spared at the end

05:28 DaemonFC; Yeah, it was.

05:29 DaemonFC; He tried to appoint hundreds of people all over government on his last few days, but Biden fired them all.

05:29 DaemonFC; The few he couldn't fired got moved to positions where they'll never see anything that could damage Biden or allow them to leak things to Trump and where they'll probably just give up and resign.

05:29 TR News; Total size of Gemini capsule of Techrights is now 1.6GB. Due to page crawling limits (max 10,000), Lupa knows of no Gemini capsule with over 1GB in "content" gemini://gemini.bortzmeyer.org/software/lupa/stats.gmi

=> ↺ gemini://gemini.bortzmeyer.org/software/lupa/stats.gmi

05:30 DaemonFC; schestowitz-TR2, We came inches away from a corrupt and illegal Census count too.

05:30 DaemonFC; The career civil servants that Trump couldn't fire kept coming up with excuses not to hand over the final reports until he was gone and Biden reversed the executive order to not count immigrants.

05:31 schestowitz-TR2; like orange's wife

05:31 DaemonFC; schestowitz-TR2, So in our system, there's always 535 members of the House and Senate, and the electoral votes are that plus 3 for DC even though it has no representation.

05:32 DaemonFC; Trump figured if he didn't include immigrants in the Census, it would hurt blue states more than red states, and the balance of power in the House and in the electoral vote count would shift to red states.

05:32 DaemonFC; Allowing them to pick up, oh, maybe 15-20 House seats and electoral votes that they shouldn't have.

05:33 DaemonFC; So it was a pretty naked power grab to get Republicans more power in the federal government and make it nearly impossible for Democrats to win the House of Representatives or the Presidency.

05:33 DaemonFC; Their other longstanding goal is to repeal the 17th amendment and kick US Senate elections to state legislatures.

05:34 DaemonFC; If that happened, Republicans could appoint 54-55 Senators and they'd never lose control of the Senate.

05:34 DaemonFC; But that will be harder, because you have to get 38 states to ratify it as well as 3/5ths of each chamber of Congress to send it to the states.

05:35 DaemonFC; They'd be able to do considerable damage just by rigging the Census.

05:35 DaemonFC; Since the Senate favors the Republican Party slightly even with popular vote.

05:36 DaemonFC; They figured that they could rig the Senate, seize power, and just spend all of the years that they had 51 votes (having repealed the filibuster) appointing judges and federal bureaucrats to dismantle the regulatory state and impose their court rulings on us.

05:36 DaemonFC; As long as they never lose the White House (because of the fake Census) they have all the time in the world to tear down everything.

05:38 DaemonFC; And we could get there yet.

05:38 DaemonFC; We were just spared this cycle from having a completely fabricated Census that lets them do that.

05:40 DaemonFC; There's a process where cities and states can have the Census correct counting errors, but it doesn't change how many House seats or electoral votes they have that cycle.

05:41 DaemonFC; But it does change how much money they get from Congress for population-funded programs, and they could potentially sue their state legislature and demand a redistricting based on the new numbers.

05:42 DaemonFC; So it would actually be possible to gerrymander Illinois a little more.

05:42 DaemonFC; The large cities could all get together and initiate the updated count process.

05:42 DaemonFC; Then when it turns out there's more people living up here than were counted last time, the state legislature could tweak the maps saying they have to under "One Person, One Vote", and it would be legal.

05:43 DaemonFC; They probably wouldn't end up getting to make major changes, but they could put a couple of districts a little further from reach of the Republicans.

22:43 TR Bot; Contract for deed: The promise of homeownership that often leaves Midwest buyers out in the cold | KCUR 89.3 - NPR in Kansas City. Local news, entertainment and podcasts.

22:43 DaemonFC; "For example, when the Pennsylvania Attorney General sued a company that did hundreds of rent-to-own contracts in that state, it discovered that only 2% of buyers succeeded in obtaining the deed for the propert, signifying that they were now homeowners."

22:43 DaemonFC; I wonder how many people who get a 30 year mortgage lose the house.

22:43 DaemonFC; The article provides nothing to compare this to.

22:45 DaemonFC; " Investors used contract sales to sell properties at inflated prices with high interest rates to people who could not get a conventional mortgage."

22:45 DaemonFC; Yeah, mom and Dave (idiot #3) got a house on a contract agreement because with six figures a year between them they couldn't come up with $11,500 to buy a house in bad condition.

22:46 DaemonFC; So they signed the agreement at what turned out to be 12% interest and mom put a bunch of money into fixing the house and lost it to Dave in the divorce (second house she paid to fix up and then lost to an ex-husband).

22:47 DaemonFC; Meanwhile, they were paying rent on top of that and she couldn't get him to fix the new house fast enough to move into, so that went on for 6 months before they had to move in and do the rest later because they were out of money.

22:48 DaemonFC; She had me go over there and help so it would get done quicker.

22:49 DaemonFC; The guy isn't that smart. He was wondering how we were going to get rid of a cast iron bathtub and I said "You don't remove it in one piece. Cast iron weighs a ton. Give me that sledgehammer.".

22:49 DaemonFC; I just busted it into pieces and took it to the scrapyard. :/

22:50 DaemonFC; I had to redo the plumbing in the basement because the copper pipes had corroded and started leaking.

22:50 DaemonFC; I scrapped them and replaced it with pex.

22:51 DaemonFC; There was all kinds of scrap metal in that house. The plumbing, the bathtub. The guy even had old filing cabinets, an old water heater, old PC cases. Tons and tons of scrap.

22:51 DaemonFC; Enough to pay for about $3,000 of the house, honestly, and the guy left it there.

22:52 DaemonFC; MinceR, Lots of big vodka rebates on Ibotta all of a sudden.
