Tilde.cafe had generously provided a home for Spellbinding, but they are shutting down(?)
Can you spare a tiny bit of resources to host it?
Spellbinding is a C-based CGI script that uses absolutely minimal resources to provide the game experience to a couple of dozen players daily.
If you have a stable server and wanto to help, I and the players would greatly appreciate it.
Also, if you know of a good, stable free provider with CGI, please let me know.

do you know your deadline for migrating before it's shut down? I have a small digitalocean vm I've got set up that I wouldn't mind repurposing

@digler, thank you!
@satch just notified me that tilde.cafe is shutting down on the 10th -- with no obvious notice other than changing "hello" to "goodbye" on their web page...
I set up an interim instance on the tilde.team server for now, but am looking for someplace more permanent, like sdf if they allow CGI (trying to see if they support it) or a server that belongs to someone who plans on being around for a while so I don't have to do this again...

@stack, on the 10th of February, right? Not January. Just thought I'd specify, since just saying the 10th could mean in two days.
=> ๐ stack [OP] ยท Jan 08 at 18:29:
Oh, that's different -- I somehow thought it was Jan! Thank you, @meidam. How did you find out? I didn't see anything or get any emails.
Well, I already set up a different instance of all games. As of tomorrow they will diverge, so there will be two different SpellBinding games.
This gives me a little more time to fix any transition issues, or maybe find a better location.

@stack, no problem. I found out by reading the same post from satch that you have commented on recently.
=> ๐ digler ยท Jan 08 at 19:31:
@stack if sdf can handle it then that might be a good choice, but I can offer to be your backup option to them at least. I don't even recall which gemini server I'm running but we can get into it if that ends up being a dead end.

I appreciate you offer, @digler!
I don't want to create a burden for you, and ideally the game belongs on a server that is up and running long-termish with something like administrative staff... Or at least with a reason other than just keeping a CGI for some rando's gemini game!
Let's stay in touch and see what happens in the next month (I thought the deadline was Jan 10, but it's Feb 10, so there is a lot less pressure).
And again thank you!

Tilde.team was seriously CPU- loaded when I just checked. I hope it works out.

@stack, spider announced via email to a list of ~cafe members that have logged in recently, afaik. I've just forwarded that email to the you using the email you used when signing up.
~cafe shutting down was discussed quite a bit in the #tilde.cafe libera iRC channel last year because spider is no longer able to continue it. we all thought it was going to shut down by the end of 2024 and jan6 has modified the homepage for a while now. I do think spider should have sent that email to all members, though...
on another note, can someone link to me @satch's post on this? I can't seem to find it, and all gemini search engines I've tried are either down or could not find it either.

Iโve an account on tilde.club, it seems well maintained, and definitely supports Gemini/cgi. You could request one for yourself there?

@hedy thanks, I found your email.
I am sorry to see you close shop. And thank you for hosting the game for so long.
