I think there’s a bug which causes the first line 1. to be empty?

Don’t look unless you want the answers given to you:

Not a bug, you just haven't found answer #1!

But I see the issue. I should at least put question marks into the unsolved slots.

nice! for a monochrome mode, maybe 3 kinds of pattern/shading on the card background? Getting it working nicely in ascii is I suppose too much to hope for (though I wonder if it would still be fun if cards are just coded by 4-digit ternary strings...)

I am already pushing it with little glyphs. I had to alter the boxes to cue shading which is too hard to see otherwise, and I think it's a win.

It's a very visual thing, and as you do it your brain will start finding sets without a conscious effort. My daughter can walk up and pick out several sets in seconds.

I am not sure there is a good way to communicate 4 distinct qualities in the space of a small word without color. Even color took a lot of tweaking as thin lines and glyphs tend to lose it.

Worked well for me!

Is this color palette the same every day? Seems to me you could randomly choose three colors every day to keep it fresher.

it looks like a great start

great start! not sure if you were planning this, but visually seeing which cards are used would be helpful.
