Surprised that some apps in list could be configured well, anyway, I like to research community-driven repositories like that: [https link]

Mozilla removes the 'do not track' setting — Citing that "many websites ignore this feature" Mozilla removed it. Many drivers ignore stop lights! Lets remove them too. At least you could see that I did not want to be tracked... Alrhough that probably made me more interesting. [https link] In all likelihood this makes no difference except it does show that we're going in the wrong direction...

Tracking Emoji? 😱 — Tracking pixels are problematic, since loading them gives away information about browsing habits that... we don't want to give away. It's just an image though. There are lots of images, and they don't need to be 1x1 blank pixels. What about emoji? Are the images stored locally? Or do they (and reaction .gifs, etc) download from somewhere, based on some ID from a unicode character map? Is there some /path/to/emoji/data/ on my hard drive? How does that work, and are any of...

Hi all, in case you travel a lot and use Onion Courier already, you may find it useful to generate a deterministic onion address for your Onion Courier Tor Hidden Service. [https link] Regards Stefan

I gave up long ago on GnuPG and switched to age. age is pretty cool, but as a casual user I often forget the proper command line arguments combinations. Therefore I decided to create minicrypt, which only has two commands, -d decrypt and -g generate key pair. Encryption for a single recipient does not need a parameter. The nice thing, compared for example with GnuPG, is, it does not produce meta data and therefore is ideally suited for anonymous communications. [https link]

So, in the Chat Control v2 era in EU privacy is dead now. It was repelled once so they tried again… I’m already too tired for this shit. 72% of EU citizens was against but we have “democracy” so the government doesn’t care about citizens’ will. Every government over time evolves into totalitarianism. Every economic system over time evolves into feudalism. I wasn’t anarchist before but I’m now. Fuck the system!

I just released my new Go project 'Onion Courier' which allows Alice and Bob to send messages or files to each other through the Tor Network, via easy to set-up local Tor Hidden Services and ease of use of my Go client and server programs. [https link]

A new way to send/receive encrypted messages. [https link] Alice does: $ enc | nekoweb msg/5.html Bob does: $ nekoweb -d [https link] | dec Hello World. For encryption it uses XChaCha20 and for encoding a Golang Encoder/Decoder, with additional tools. If you like to know more feel free to ask your questions.

Google is toying with us — I am sadly drawn to Youtube in my downtime. I have a pretty eclectic taste in what I want to watch to relax, which includes front-window hour-long views of tram rides in various European capital cities, trips through sewers and Chernobyl tunnels, and various waterworks. Yeah, I guess I am a bit weird. Anyway, I try to use various libre vewers for youtube streams, but sometimes I just want to watch on my TV without dicking around with computers. After a break for a...

Maybe useful for some of you. [https link] allows you to sign-up with Tor Browser and you get 100 MB for a static Web page too.

Another way in which Google Chrome spies on users — It turns out Google Chrome (via Chromium) includes a default extension which makes extra services available to code running on the *.google.com domains - tweeted about today by Luca Casonato, but the code has been there in the public repo since October 2013 as far as I can tell.

someone leaked on GitHub supposedly sensitive Chinese government data - specifically related to offensive cyber security. — It seems someone or a group of people published on Github a series of document describing various offensive solution to spy and hack various devices, online accounts, extract data from the targets. The war on privacy continues, Binance delist the privacy crypto currency Monero — It’s not really a surprise but Binance, the bullshit casino that dump all kind of dubious pump ’n’ dump delisted Monero a privacy first crypto currency, that is built to provide strong privacy and protection to its users. With all the discussion to ban strong encryption or to backdoor it It feels increasingly similar to the crypto wars in the early 90 with PGP. There is a relenthless push and a blend of...

Encrypted Communication Illegal in Australia... — Not really news, but I came across an article from a year ago: Police arrested a 22-year-old with cash, drugs, and an encrypted communications device. Never mind the drugs; the state were particularly interested in charging the man with violating the Dedicated Encrypted Criminal Communication Device Prohibition Orders Act 2022. Communication using encryption that makes it hard for law enforcement to intercept the messages is illegal. I was very...

The cookie policy is bullshit, counterproductive and harms privacy! — Apologies if my post seems like a rant In this modern era, it's impossible to access a website without being bombarded by countless pop-ups requesting your permission to track, monitor, sell, and monetize your data and metadata. The one thing that occurred to me is that this is not only pointless but actually harmful. Before this absurd policy, you could simply delete your cookies once a week (or occasionally) and your...

Qwant search engine — I've been using Qwant.com as my main search engine -- I can't remember why, but I think I've read some good stuff about it back then. Today it started keeping me out unless I turn off the ad blocker. Looking at uBlock it appears that 21 hits are blocked; looking at the log reveals suspicious-looking tracker-like scripts. I don't like being pushed around like that, so I will probably stop using it. Do you know anything about this? What search engine do you use?

Email - Any suggestions for email? I've been transitioning away from my Gmail account to an address at my personal domain name. Right now I'm using privateemail.com for hosting. The cost is reasonable, but the spam filtering is not great.

Privacy rights of children — As a parent of young children I hear about parents with older kids equipping their kids with all this surveillance hardware so they can track their kids for their apparent safety. I am strongly against this but I know the old privacy vs safety argument, and when it's your own kids at that age "you'll do it too" I just feel like this is just prepping future generations to feel like they're constantly watched and then they're just okay with it as adults. it starts...
