I know very little about public-facing networking, but I came across Cloudflare tunnels as a way to expose services without compromising my home network.
Is anyone using these for Gemini?

From reading the short spec on it, it just sounds and looms like a VPN or SSH tunnel, to someone else's server.
Cloudflare not being the most trustworthy company, it might not be the best idea.
You won't gain any safety or security from using a tunnel, it still exposes the service, just from another IP. The service that is left exposed still has the same vulnerabilities it would always have and pose the same threat to your home network.
P.S. That does not mean you shouldn't use such a service, if obfuscation of your home network is important to you.
I have considered making my own server and I don't particularly like the idea of someone accessing my network directly.

Yeah I'm feeling this as well. I'd have my own capsule online already if I wasn't worried about compromising the home network.

I used to run on an RPI but switched to a cheap vps for this reason
