Announcing ROOPHLOCH 2021

It is September, my gopherspace dudes and dudettes! In accordance

with the ancient (well, three-year old[1,2]) traditions of this

hallowed space, that means it is time once again for a new Remote

Outdoor Off-Grid Phlogging Challenge! ROOPHLOCH 2021 starts today.

The rules and spirit of the exercise remain unbent, unbowed and

unbroken. In order to participate in ROOPHLOCH '21, you need to:

  1. Make a phlog post,

  1. From somewhere other than the place(s) you normally make phlog

posts when you aren't participating in ROOPHLOCH,

  1. Whilst not inside a permanent human-made structure,

  1. Without the direct use of permanent infrastructure for power or

communication.

  1. Email me (solderpunk@posteo.net) informing me of the URL of your

ROOPHLOCH post, so I can publish a list of entries for everybody to

enjoy.

  1. Complete all of the above by midnight, your local time, on

September 30th, 2021.

As ever, ROOPHLOCH is not a competition and ROOPHLOCH is not a race.

There are no prizes, and there are only winners. It's an opportunity

to challenge yourself physically and technically, and an invitation to

think about internet and computing infrastructure. As per past years,

everybody who lets me know about their ROOPHLOC post before the end of

the deadline will have their entry listed alphabetically (not in

order of completion!) in an official round up. You can check out

previous years' round ups[3,4] for inspiration.

Good luck and have fun!
