Hey, everyone!
Software engineer by training and trade, tabletop roleplayer by passion, spouse, parent, occasionally slave to the neighbour's cat. I'm interested in stuff that makes us more empowered in this weirdly cyberpunk capitalist society. The whole reason I learned programming was because it seemed like magic to me; programmer friends understood things, and could do things! It was mind-boggling to see.
On the theme of empowerment I'm also interested in sustainable living, distributed computing and culture, federated/distributed social networks, privacy, low-tech solutions...
And baking bread.
I'm not sure I'll be talking tabletop role-playing games much here, as I have other venues where I discuss that at length. If you have thoughts and questions on that topic I love to help out, though. And I'm up for any and all collaborative creations in that area too, if I'm not to busy.
I fell down a deeeep rabbit hole, and I don't want to get up.
Commercial social media burnt me out, eventually. I'm not even a heavy social network user, but the constant scandals, privacy invasions, UX failures, etc just... Aarrrgh!
So I started looking for something else, and found the Fediverse. It caught my interest and I started to build my own ActivityPub server. Progress is really slow, but it might be something in the end. However, I've also realized that twitter-like discussions are not my thing (have you tried following a topic in that sort of interface?? Threaded posts, and no overview!).
Someone on Fedi mentioned gemini, and I checked it out and got hooked. I love the simplicity, the DYI spirit, the community. Speaking of the community, through gemini research I stumbled into the Tildeverse, and OMG! Awesome place!
