Radiohead comparisons are all too frequent, but in The Playing Fields’ case they’re completely justified. Despite its painful a cappella intro groan, "Protect the Humans" is a near-perfect slice of Idioteque squeal ‘n’ bass. "Valley of Salt", meanwhile, has gorgeous plainsong harmonies more suited to a monastery that the sort of Camden dive the London quartet is probably used to. Derivative as an Abba tribute band, but who cares with songs this lush?
