init

This is a first stab at putting something up on gemini.

The simplicity of the protocol really appeals to me, and I especially like the intentionality behind it. We're not used to thinking about technology as something that can be intentionally limited for social or psychological well-being. Everything has to be as advanced and full-featured as possible, consequences be damned. So, here's to putting a bit more intentionality behind how I use computers.

I've been meaning to put some kind of blog up in HTTP land for some time now. I have a somewhat professional website there I could start posting written entries on, but I suppose I end up feeling shy. It's hard to be an authentic person when you're trying to establish yourself as an academic. Feels like I'm constructing some kind of commodified image of myself for hypothetical future job committees.

So I'll do this instead. It's been a nice evening reading through other people's capsules and gemlogs.
