So, I finally got around to creating my own capsule (thanks tilde.pink!). I found Gemini a month or so ago and I've been really enjoying my sort of drunken stumble around Geminispace. I've found a wonderful variety of content: great music, interesting technical musings, funny bitching, and a thought provoking piece on the life of an alcoholic. It reminds me of being a child again, wandering around the internet without having a clue where to go and what I might find. I think it might be exactly what I need right now, or maybe not. I'm not really certain about anything at the moment. But I do know that I don't feel connected to the internet anymore. It used to be the place I would go to escape from everything crappy in my life, but nowadays I find it's just an extension of that crappiness. I don't know how much of that is the internet changing vs me changing. But Geminispace reminds me of that feeling of escape, when I momentarily would find myself somewhere better.
I used to do a lot of reading and writing, particularly when I was a student. I used to read a book a week, and I wrote history essays from when I was 11 until I was about 22. Now I never write anything and I read a couple of books a year. I find myself in a profession that I never wanted to end up in, staring blankly at walls while yet another conversation about cloud native computing bounces around the room. I would really like to change that, so creating this capsule is an attempt to escape from my habits. I guess when I say my habits I mean myself really. I don't like myself, I don't like where I've ended up, and something about Gemini really spoke to me, so here I am.
