Why make a capsule

There are so many things that one could spend their time on, why choose to put effort here? My intent is to have a little out-of-the-way place to practice some writing and so doing, interact with an interesting community. The gemiverse seems like a friendly enough place to do both of those. Like many here I am sure, this is not my first public online journal. I wonder how one can best set out on a writing project that they hope to stick to? At any rate, that is still a mystery to me.
