###Sleep

Well I finally picked up Sleep's discography. The defacto standard and possibly creator of Stoner Doom. I really enjoy listening to their new album The Sciences the most. Of course getting lost in the hour long Dopesmoker song is another thing. Dopesmoker is also an album. Then there is Holy Mountain. The "main" Sleep album. I picked up the Full Dynamic Range Edition, whatever that means. Maybe just remastered? It was the same price so, whatever I got it all on bandcamp. I used to use Spotify mostly and bandcamp only sometimes. I don't really like streaming services much anymore as you never own the content.

I found this out the hard way a few months ago when I let my Playstation 4 subscription lapse. All those "free" games every month? You are only allowed to play them if you are in a subscription. How asinine is it force such limited usage of a game console. You have to download games, those games require a subscription, when the console maker decides to close down it's services and the console, you have now acquired a useless brick. I hadn't bought a console in many many years when I got the PS4. I did have a PS2. But I never got a PS3 or XBox360 or whatever. Anyways, previous console were not required to have the internet and a subscription. This new model is all about taking the consumer dollar. I find nothing good from it and will continue to support PC and multi-platforms as the way to go for games.

##snow
The weather took a turn for the worse. I thought we were only going to get 3-4 inches of snow but it seems like we have a few more and some blistering winds. It's a white out, out there. The wifey is really picky on food right now and decided on KFC! haha anyways, at least someone is delivering it. I offered to drive to pick up food for her but honestly I am afeared to drive her car in such weather. Last time I drove in such conditions I bent the wheel on my Volvo. I still need to get it fixed.

Well I hope you are doing well dear reader. Drop me a message on mastodon or email if you have any questions or comments. Actually, it would be cool to answer reader mail. So please send me Questions and I will add them to my gemlog with answers! :)

behold a new life

##behold a new life

Well, we just found out that we are probably pregnant. I saw we but I mean my wife. I kind of say it as meaning "we are having a baby." It is highly inaccurate but I said it anyways today. She took a pregnancy test last night and it was positive. She originally said she would wait and tell everyone after she was showing, but honestly was too excited. She called her mom this morning and I began calling my family too. I am very excited. I never wanted a child before I met Ash. Now that we've gone through the hell that was 2020 (mostly my fault, I may elaborate eventually, although probably not) I am so pumped for the rest of our life together. I love her, I truly do, with all my heart that I can.

I hope you are well as well, dear reader. Till next time.

TTFN

More old software

#More old software
I forgot to mention that Grafx2, a pixel art program from the 90s, has recently gotten an update and works splendidly with both animation and layers. No need for using the now closed source Aseprite. I could only get the opensource version in ports to work on GhostBSD. The Linux binary and the Windows binaries both crashed or didn't work properly. But as I stated the 27th, I have refound ArtGem! So with Grafx2 and ArtGem I feel quite at home and like I did when I was a teenager drawing all the time. I do have my Wacom working fine but it's not, of course, transferring the pressure sensitivity through Wine. That wouldn't matter with ArtGem anyways. Maybe that's the programming project that I should tackle. A modern recreation of ArtGem, a raster image editor just ahead of pixel art programs. It really gets the sweet spot of control vs the tools.

Old Software

# Old Software
I got RLVision's ArtGem installed today via wine after testing in a ReactOS VM. ArtGem https://www.rlvision.com/artgem_about.php is a Raster Graphics Paint Application. It's in the lines of DPaint or Brilliance however updated some to fit the times it was made. It supports things like antialiasing and other brush effects. I really enjoyed the program around the 2000s. Unfortunately RLVision no longer allows for the download of the shareware version or any registration at all for it. So I had to scour for old crackz and finding the shareware installer was rather difficult. Luckily Archive.org came to the rescue. I'm really going to have to start using it as well for some of the old "warez" I have. As these software will dissapear forever! Things like Rocket3D Clay, IZWare Mirai, and a few other I have somewhere still I hope. Do you have any old defunct software that you really miss?
