Hanlon’s Razor and Arthur C Clarke

I don’t know where I heard it, but it was too good for me to come up with on my own:

Sufficiently advanced stupidity is indistinguishable from malice.

After repeatedly applying Hanlon’s Razor to repeated events by a particular not-exactly-colleague, I had shared the above quote, but soon after, I came to the conclusion that the motive didn’t really matter, just the outcome. The motive might matter in regards to preventing future risks, but it did nothing to help with the problem at hand.

While looking for a source, I found the Wikipedia article for Hanlon’s Razor, which didn’t yield the source of my quote, but it was pretty interesting. And the quote from a Heinlin character:

You have attributed conditions to villainy that simply result from stupidity.
