decorum, expectations, and ethos

The book defines decorum as character-based agreeability. Your audiences find you agreeable if you meet their expectations.

Ethos has to do with fitting a group’s expectations.

I feel like I don’t get an opportunity to practice this much because I already have a respected reputation that causes my peers to pay attention when I have an opinion or a desire for a specific outcome. On the other hand, I leverage the expectations I’ve already established whether or not I have the knowledge to back the choice, regardless of my desire to leverage it.
