Compositing sort of works with xcompmgr, but not with picom. It looks like any windows launched before the compositor will have some trouble redrawing.
The system becomes … graphically unstable. Much like when using compiz on NVidia cards back when the Xdamage extension was becoming a thing. Remember the windows that caught fire when you closed them?
