00:40 SomeH4x0r; matey: seen someone called matey just disconnected from StardustNetwork, was it you
00:40 DaemonFC; Plea bargains happen all the time. Technically, you are admitting guilt, but factually, people do it whether they are guilty or innocent based on what they figure their odds are in court, which are usually not good either way.
00:41 DaemonFC; <schestowitz[TR]> whaat would that be like?
00:42 DaemonFC; Depends on what you mean. A deferred sentence is just that. It doesn't go into effect during a period of probation or court supervision unless you screw up and come back in front of the court. In which case the original sentence goes into effect immediately and you're charged with a probation violation, which is a Class A Misdemeanor usually, at least in Illinois and Indiana.
00:42 DaemonFC; So you can get into more trouble, or you can complete it and that's the end of that.
00:42 DaemonFC; Judges usually put jail time in and then suspend it as motivation for not getting into any more trouble while you're on probation.
00:43 DaemonFC; That's the stick.
00:43 DaemonFC; The carrot, at least in Illinois and Indiana, is that you might also be able to negotiate for the court to dismiss your case entirely at the end of the sentence.
00:44 DaemonFC; So you have no "conviction" record and can honestly answer you have never been "convicted" of a crime on a job application or an apartment screener.

00:46 DaemonFC; Unless someone looks in the court computer for this county to see the court records, it doesn't come up.

00:49 matey; it was nice to have a fixed release gnu/linux distro
00:49 matey; yeah

01:28 matey; the real left has shit to do, so talking about overpopulation is allowed and even necessary
01:28 MinceR; meanwhile the "conservatives" think it's great to handle overpopulation by simply depriving 99.999% of humans of most or all resources and hope to be the tiny fraction that gets to live like kings
01:28 schestowitz[TR]; nobody says let''s reduce population based on race
01:28 MinceR; and of course most of them don't get to be that
01:28 schestowitz[TR]; or let's kill/cull
01:28 MinceR; they just campaign for themselves to be forced into a worse existence, effectively

01:29 schestowitz[TR]; eugenics is about nationalism and supremacists
01:29 schestowitz[TR]; trying to "remove" the "bad" genes
01:29 matey; but the two can be fit together, like orban and putin
01:30 schestowitz[TR]; if we achieve populaioion reduction through births, however, the elephant in the room is, who sets the policy?
01:30 matey; yo dawg we herd you like solving overpopulation! so we put eugenics in your solution, so you can sieg while you heil!
01:30 schestowitz[TR]; would that be weighted sum of current population distribution?
01:30 schestowitz[TR]; say, you've decided the earth can cope with 1 million humans
01:31 schestowitz[TR]; so about 400,000 of them would be Indian and Chinese
01:31 matey; who sets the policy? <- if we could actually solve racism
01:31 schestowitz[TR]; and even then, WHICH indian and chinese?
01:31 matey; which sounds nuts
01:31 schestowitz[TR]; indian and chinese are not ethnicities
01:31 matey; i mean i know theres going to be little bits of it in everyone
01:31 schestowitz[TR]; tghere are many ethnicities in those two countries
01:31 matey; and thats actually not a problem

01:32 matey; but its still a fucking terrible solution
01:32 MinceR; and at the end, 1 human remains and dies, perhaps of old age
01:32 matey; except for the killing themselves part, which i like just fine
01:32 schestowitz[TR]; one way to go is to divide humanity in half, have one of them exterminate the other half, then start over

01:33 matey; roy and i differ like this
01:33 matey; i think it GREAT when people like that kill themselves
01:33 matey; it should be applauded
01:33 MinceR; this sort of divide-and-exterminate can work by race, ethnicity, religion, gender and a great many other criteria that humans like to hate each other on the basis of
01:33 schestowitz[TR]; some people would tell you,
01:34 matey; fuck them
01:34 schestowitz[TR]; that china and russian "took turn"

01:37 matey; "theres just too many pawns"

01:37 MinceR; sociopaths do

01:46 MinceR; and of course it's going to be very hard to withstand the temperature and radiation on the planet even before the ~5 billion years

21:31 DaemonFC; <schestowitz[TR]> or marry someone who did ;)
21:31 DaemonFC; I'm making a potato casserole tonight.
21:32 DaemonFC; It's not fancy. It's basically just funeral potatoes with Potatoes O'Brien and fried spam.

21:35 psydruid; People are their own worst enemies in this regard
21:36 psydruid; If ICBM can't hire new cocsuckers, they won't have much of a reason to exist
21:36 DaemonFC; Mom said, "When I was in my 30s I used to dread what would happen in 30-40 years when your dad retired and was home all the time because..." and I interrupted, and said "The only time you had any peace and quiet was when he was at work, asleep, or in his porn dungeon.".
21:37 DaemonFC; He actually always took over an entire room of the house, filled it with porn and Dungeons and Dragons games and a TV with a cable box, and he was in there all the time, except for when he got home and griped at us or came out of there and griped at us.
21:37 DaemonFC; I never thought I'd say this, but I feel sorry for Jan.
21:38 DaemonFC; But in a way, I also think it serves her right. She took over, she's wearing the pants because he's too afraid she'll ditch him too somehow and go live with relatives I guess, and she told him he wasn't "allowed" to have anything to do with his children.
21:38 DaemonFC; So she deserves to suffer with whatever bullshit he's doing now because I refuse to believe he ever became a nice person.
21:39 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], To not have to deal with dad too much, I devised a strategy when I was a child. Whatever homework assignment I went home with started at 5 PM, which was when he walked in the door.

21:52 DaemonFC; Don't book the La Quinta Inn.
21:53 DaemonFC; They had a pretty substantial hotel breakfast bar though. All the trimmings. Like, almost a restaurant. Weird.
21:54 DaemonFC; John's mom booked the Hilton and there was the Midget Convention and they ate everything on the breakfast bar the first day, so on the second day we raced down there and I got like three plates full of food and filled up my to go mug of coffee.

21:59 DaemonFC; The Parkview Hospital cafeteria in Indiana was cheap and they put out good stuff, and then John worked there so they started giving me his employee discount.
21:59 DaemonFC; So then we just stopped buying groceries entirely because it was like maybe $10 a day for both of us to eat breakfast and dinner there.
22:00 DaemonFC; It's always good. They had prime rib on Fridays and it was actually Prime Rib, not one of those crappy "oh we got the cheapest shit we could find and called it Prime Rib".
22:01 MinceR; Composite Rib
22:01 DaemonFC; Hospitals don't exist to make a ton of money on the cafeteria. They're busy bilking people out of a million dollars for the mistake of getting pregnant or needing their appendix out.
22:01 DaemonFC; They're not thinking about how to get an extra dollar out of the guy who swings by and gets a breakfast burrito and coffee.
22:02 DaemonFC; "Don't get sick, and if you do....Please die quickly!" -Congressman Alan Grayson on the "Republican Healthcare Plan"
22:02 DaemonFC; Mom was lucky that if she was going to get COVID, it happened on July 1st when her Medicare started.
22:03 DaemonFC; And not a month prior when she had the shitty $8,600 deductible health insurance plan that was "Obamacare approved" at work.
22:03 DaemonFC; That's what most people in this country deal with now thanks to Obamacare.
22:03 DaemonFC; You pay the fucking crooks like $600-800 a month.
22:03 DaemonFC; Then you get a $8,000-$10,000 deductible plan for that.
22:04 DaemonFC; Then once you blow through that, which is 100% on you, it starts paying at like 70 or 80% of the "negotiated rate".
22:04 *oarion7 (~anonymous@user/oarion7) has joined #techrights
22:04 DaemonFC; So Trump said "You have to be hit by a tractor to use it.".
22:05 DaemonFC; Because if you're paying them $800 a month that's $9,600 a year, then you're on the hook for $10,000, then if you manage to blow through more than almost $20,000 that you, you cost them a bit of money, but you're still responsible for 20-30% of the remainder.
22:06 DaemonFC; They make a lot of money because everyone has to buy this shit and most people stay the hell away from the doctors and hospitals until they don't have a choice, which is what the deductible is there for.
22:06 DaemonFC; So it's a license to print money for the insurance people.
22:06 DaemonFC; And the poorest workers don't get mad because the government robs us to pay their health insurance.
22:07 DaemonFC; That's what it is. It's a grift, and it's the government wanting to placate enough people that there's not mass support for bringing the whole thing down.
22:07 DaemonFC; If nobody has to buy insurance, the price comes down. There's never been a case where a government mandate to buy insurance has brought the price down.
22:08 DaemonFC; In the few states where you don't legally have to get car insurance, the car insurance companies sell policies for less money to try to attract business.
22:08 DaemonFC; Even though there will be theoretically more uninsured drivers.
22:09 DaemonFC; In Illinois, they know that if a cop pulls you over with no insurance, you can go to jail for a year, so they use that to jack up the price. Suddenly you have to buy something that's only $30 a month in New Hampshire, so it's $80 for you now.

22:50 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], Most of grandma's cooking was pretty good but she had two things that just flat out sucked. "Chili" and "Vegetable Soup". The chili was literally a slab of hamburger with crunchy macaroni and no seasonings, and I tried feeding it to the dog and the dog wouldn't eat it. And the Vegetable Soup was her pouring cans of vegetables into a pot and turning the burner on. It was so bland that grandpa and everybody took turns passing the
