beginning of new day, July 2

00:00 DaemonFC; I usually only pay about $400-500 a year out of pocket on my healthcare.

00:00 DaemonFC; Fee-for-service is going out of style. I have avoided HMOs for a while now.

00:00 DaemonFC; As long as it's medically necessary, it's covered.

00:01 DaemonFC; I can go anywhere I want. There is no network.

00:01 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], You have to keep an eye on the doctor though. Like, if they say "I'm evaluating him due to hypertension and this is why I need these labs done." the labwork has no co-pays.

00:02 *psydruid (~psydruid@jevhxkzmtrbww.irc) has left #techrights

00:02 DaemonFC; If they just say "Do these.", then I get a bill saying my insurance rejected everything and I have to pay them $500 or something.

00:02 DaemonFC; I tried arguing with them on appeal once and nobody would reverse it, so I threw the lab into the bankruptcy.

00:02 DaemonFC; Since then, I've made very sure to make sure the lab order has "medically necessary" billing codes on it before I go in there.

00:03 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], We've had a lot of "freedom days".

00:03 DaemonFC; In 2020, Trump said it'll be gone by August.

00:03 DaemonFC; Mom repeated him.

00:03 MinceR; french days?

00:03 DaemonFC; Then last year, Biden said July 4th was Independence from COVID.

00:04 schestowitz[TR]; 800,000+ deaths later...

00:04 DaemonFC; Then a year later, almost to the day, mom and my brother have it at the same time.

00:04 MinceR; nice, finally the USA is not a colony of COVID, whatever that might be

00:04 DaemonFC; MinceR, It started out as a declaration of independence from COVID.

00:04 DaemonFC; Stating that it wouldn't tax our tea anymore.

00:04 DaemonFC; That's always how it begins.

00:40 DaemonFC; What about his case?

00:40 schestowitz[TR]; deferred sentence

00:40 schestowitz[TR]; whaat would that be like?

00:40 SomeH4x0r; matey: seen someone called matey just disconnected from StardustNetwork, was it you

00:40 DaemonFC; Plea bargains happen all the time. Technically, you are admitting guilt, but factually, people do it whether they are guilty or innocent based on what they figure their odds are in court, which are usually not good either way.

00:41 DaemonFC; <schestowitz[TR]> whaat would that be like?

00:42 DaemonFC; Depends on what you mean. A deferred sentence is just that. It doesn't go into effect during a period of probation or court supervision unless you screw up and come back in front of the court. In which case the original sentence goes into effect immediately and you're charged with a probation violation, which is a Class A Misdemeanor usually, at least in Illinois and Indiana.

00:42 DaemonFC; So you can get into more trouble, or you can complete it and that's the end of that.

00:42 DaemonFC; Judges usually put jail time in and then suspend it as motivation for not getting into any more trouble while you're on probation.

00:43 DaemonFC; That's the stick.

00:43 DaemonFC; The carrot, at least in Illinois and Indiana, is that you might also be able to negotiate for the court to dismiss your case entirely at the end of the sentence.

00:44 DaemonFC; So you have no "conviction" record and can honestly answer you have never been "convicted" of a crime on a job application or an apartment screener.

00:44 DaemonFC; I don't have any convictions, and that's all they are allowed to report.

00:45 *psydruid (~psydruid@jevhxkzmtrbww.irc) has left #techrights

00:45 DaemonFC; Most landlords use TransUnion SmartMove, and since it doesn't report on court supervisions, you should answer "No" if it asks if you've ever been convicted of a crime on the apartment application.

00:45 DaemonFC; They won't find out about it unless you tell them.

00:46 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], A court supervision is the next best thing to beating the charges entirely.

00:46 *psydruid (~psydruid@jevhxkzmtrbww.irc) has joined #techrights

00:46 DaemonFC; Unless someone looks in the court computer for this county to see the court records, it doesn't come up.

00:47 DaemonFC; Being convicted is much worse, because then the state allows everyone to report you were convicted and you have to say yes even to people who wouldn't have figured it out on their own.

00:47 matey; i think it's possible, but it involves a hard fork of the distro

00:48 DaemonFC; And it's much harder to expunge a conviction later than it is to expunge an old arrest record.

00:48 matey; i agree, on that and the point about the the community

00:48 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], If you can expunge, then it's legally like it never happened, almost.

00:48 DaemonFC; That's why I'm hiring an attorney soon to get an expungement.

00:48 matey; theres really nothing debian has that is worth salvaging to the people who would want it salvaged enough to do it

00:48 DaemonFC; That seals the court records and nobody will be able to look it up.

00:48 matey; apt in particular, is dogshit

00:49 matey; friendly dogshit, in that it avoids your foot most of the time-- by design

00:49 MinceR; well, it was nice to have a fixed release gnu/linux distro

00:49 MinceR; but release engineering takes work

00:49 MinceR; and not enough people are willing to do it, so we're not having it anymore

00:49 matey; also by design, if you try to get into it at all, youre going to get shit all over you

00:49 schestowitz; [00:44] So you have no "conviction" record and can honestly answer you have never been "convicted" of a crime on a job application or an apartment screener.

00:49 schestowitz; thanks for explaning

00:49 DaemonFC; It can be pretty pricey to bury it. You have to hire an attorney and pay the court a fee.

00:49 matey; it was nice to have a fixed release gnu/linux distro

00:49 matey; yeah

00:50 DaemonFC; But it's worth it because you won't ever have to answer for it when you apply for a job or something again. Because they won't know and you're not obligated to tell them.

00:50 MinceR; i mean there's still slackware, but it takes so much time between releases that you can't really install it on a new PC most of the time

00:50 matey; but they havent released a fix in 7 years

00:50 MinceR; you can install -current but then it just destroys itself when you tell it to update

00:50 DaemonFC; Getting a deferred judgment is a powerful incentive to just go ahead and plead it out, especially if it's a very low level charge they'll reduce it to.

00:50 matey; and of course, theres the kernel

01:14 matey; they are being used against us

01:14 matey; yea

01:14 MinceR; what they don't realize is that they will also exterminate themselves

01:15 matey; if if someone came along and slaughtered them and saved humanity, thats fair play

01:15 MinceR; they believe their "god" will protect them, whatever happens

01:20 schestowitz[TR]; vegs are grown with pesticide usually

01:21 matey; im sure many would prefer it

01:21 MinceR; bacteria are killed in quite large amounts

01:21 schestowitz[TR]; fo vegans kill insects

01:21 schestowitz[TR]; and there are also small organisms inside

01:21 MinceR; nature is red in tooth and claw

01:21 MinceR; and some idiot humans delude themselves about it

01:21 MinceR; do "conservatives" feel pain?

01:21 MinceR; maybe they only react as if they did

01:22 schestowitz[TR]; Orban is an insect... to Putin

01:22 matey; do "conservatives" feel pain? <- not nearly enough

01:23 MinceR; they could fuck in felcsut, but that wouldn't inconvenience nearly as many people and it wouldn't be nearly as much a spectacle

01:25 matey; and its REALLY fucking inefficient

01:26 matey; ridiculously so

01:26 MinceR; i guess salmon is also technically red and i love it even more so

01:26 matey; tuna: the OTHER red meat

01:26 schestowitz[TR]; weird

01:26 MinceR; efficiency wouldn't be so much of a problem if this species of idiot devils focused on quality of life instead of trying to coat the entire planet in human bodies

01:26 matey; ("pork: the other white meat" was a real campaign)

01:26 schestowitz[TR]; matey: yes, overpopulation

01:26 MinceR; i've heard "human: the other white meat"

01:27 MinceR; but i don't think i'm going to

01:28 matey; thats typical fake left logic

01:28 schestowitz[TR]; it is againa red herr (ing)

01:28 matey; the real left has shit to do, so talking about overpopulation is allowed and even necessary

01:28 MinceR; meanwhile the "conservatives" think it's great to handle overpopulation by simply depriving 99.999% of humans of most or all resources and hope to be the tiny fraction that gets to live like kings

01:28 schestowitz[TR]; nobody says let''s reduce population based on race

01:28 MinceR; and of course most of them don't get to be that

01:28 schestowitz[TR]; or let's kill/cull

01:28 MinceR; they just campaign for themselves to be forced into a worse existence, effectively

01:28 schestowitz[TR]; the idea is controlling birth levels

01:28 matey; <schestowitz[TR]> nobody says let''s reduce population based on race <- i guess you missed it

01:29 matey; it was several decade ago

01:29 schestowitz[TR]; eugenics

01:29 matey; yeah thats still a thing

01:29 schestowitz[TR]; that's not about overpopulation

01:29 matey; well not exactly

01:29 schestowitz[TR]; eugenics is about nationalism and supremacists

01:29 schestowitz[TR]; trying to "remove" the "bad" genes

01:29 matey; but the two can be fit together, like orban and putin

01:30 schestowitz[TR]; if we achieve populaioion reduction through births, however, the elephant in the room is, who sets the policy?

01:30 matey; yo dawg we herd you like solving overpopulation! so we put eugenics in your solution, so you can sieg while you heil!

01:30 schestowitz[TR]; would that be weighted sum of current population distribution?

01:30 schestowitz[TR]; say, you've decided the earth can cope with 1 million humans

01:31 schestowitz[TR]; so about 400,000 of them would be Indian and Chinese

01:31 matey; who sets the policy? <- if we could actually solve racism

01:31 schestowitz[TR]; and even then, WHICH indian and chinese?

01:31 matey; which sounds nuts

01:31 schestowitz[TR]; indian and chinese are not ethnicities

01:31 matey; i mean i know theres going to be little bits of it in everyone

01:31 schestowitz[TR]; tghere are many ethnicities in those two countries

01:31 matey; and thats actually not a problem

01:31 MinceR; it will probably solve itself

01:31 matey; well your solutions are notoriously deadly

01:31 MinceR; humanity's ways are deadly

01:32 matey; only youre not directly responsible so youre not a nazi

01:32 MinceR; racism especially so

01:32 matey; i mean if nazis kill themselves and everyone else

01:32 matey; thats not your fault

01:32 MinceR; one way to go is to divide humanity in half, have one of them exterminate the other half, then start over

01:32 matey; but its still a fucking terrible solution

01:32 MinceR; and at the end, 1 human remains and dies, perhaps of old age

01:32 matey; except for the killing themselves part, which i like just fine

01:32 schestowitz[TR]; one way to go is to divide humanity in half, have one of them exterminate the other half, then start over

01:32 MinceR; humans are fucking terrible and are resistant to improvement

01:33 schestowitz[TR]; that's a sort algorithm

01:33 matey; roy and i differ like this

01:33 matey; i think it GREAT when people like that kill themselves

01:33 matey; it should be applauded

01:33 MinceR; this sort of divide-and-exterminate can work by race, ethnicity, religion, gender and a great many other criteria that humans like to hate each other on the basis of

01:33 schestowitz[TR]; some people would tell you,

01:34 matey; fuck them

01:34 schestowitz[TR]; that china and russian "took turn"

01:34 schestowitz[TR]; with pandemic and way/ewnergy denial

01:34 MinceR; it is one of the possible ends "conservatives" are trying to steer us all toward

01:34 schestowitz[TR]; but no evidence of real cooredination

01:34 MinceR; they just don't understand it because they're "conservatives"

01:34 schestowitz[TR]; so overpopulation is deadly already

01:34 matey; who do you think can actually stop the conservatives?

01:34 MinceR; i don't think i can

01:34 schestowitz[TR]; water conflicts, famine, in north africa those are very real problems right now

01:34 matey; certainly not the coc-brigade

01:36 matey; and youre trying to come up with a strategy for actually winning

01:36 MinceR; which is very unlikely, but i guess one can hope

01:37 matey; and you look at the board, and decide its probably hopeless because

01:37 matey; "theres just too many pawns"

01:37 matey; imo thats how you do this

01:37 matey; you have to look at the important pieces

01:37 MinceR; i don't control any of the WMDs that could be used to glass orcland

01:37 MinceR; sociopaths do

01:38 matey; thats a start, looking at who has the most power

01:38 MinceR; if i was born a sociopath, perhaps i could have maneuvered myself into a position of power, but then, being a sociopath, i wouldn't even try to use it to save humanity

01:44 matey; i think we can evacuate in that time frame

01:45 MinceR; yeah

01:45 matey; what happens to the oxygen and c02 in 1 billion years?

01:46 MinceR; and of course it's going to be very hard to withstand the temperature and radiation on the planet even before the ~5 billion years

01:46 MinceR; the Sun will heat the planet so much it will boil the oceans and blow away the atmosphere, or something like that

01:46 matey; right

01:46 matey; reflectors?

18:00 MinceR; so why would you want to elect anyone, why would you want to have a state

18:00 matey; the only reason this issue matters to them is it will be exploited for votes

18:00 matey; so why would you want to elect anyone, why would you want to have a state <- thats fair play

18:00 matey; the states ITSELF is lesser evilism really

18:00 matey; and really, in most instances... its not even that

18:01 matey; just not in a way that would never work

18:01 matey; and never has worked

18:02 matey; a 2/3 majority could in fact abolish the state without shots fired

18:02 MinceR; my point exactly

18:02 matey; but shots clearly WOULD be fired before or after that, by people who wanted to keep the state

18:02 MinceR; too bad you'll never get a majority agree to abolish the state

18:02 matey; so you have to weight those odds

18:02 MinceR; because most humans are evil and stupid

18:02 matey; too bad you'll never get a majority agree to abolish the state <- i think its possible

18:03 matey; but they wont do it by voting to abolish, for one simple reason

18:03 matey; theres the way democracy works on paper (the rules)

18:03 matey; and the way it works in real life (in practice)

18:03 matey; and they arent that stupid

18:03 matey; the rules allow it

19:03 matey; just not as completely as gkh

19:04 matey; not as completely as zemlin

19:04 matey; the very moment that linux had corporate potential, lt was selling out

19:04 schestowitz[TR]; FSF does not stand for nothing

19:04 schestowitz[TR]; it stands fo the GPL

19:04 schestowitz[TR]; LF attacks it

19:04 matey; the gpl is a software license

19:04 matey; fsf USED TO stand for users controlling their compting

19:05 matey; the gpl was a tool used for that purpose.

19:05 matey; now the purpose is gone, but they still defend the tool

19:05 matey; BFD

19:05 schestowitz[TR]; Torvalds made a huge mistake

19:05 matey; thats like the last person on earth defending gun rights

19:05 schestowitz[TR]; first with OSDL

19:05 matey; no ones going to take his gun away, and theres no one left to shoot.

19:05 matey; well, maybe one. but whos going to stop him

19:05 schestowitz[TR]; and others were quick to acknowledge it

19:06 matey; so what?

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; the problem is that they leaped into another

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; LF started not so bad

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; Murdock was CTO

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; over time it got a lot worse

19:06 matey; youve succeded in changing the subject, but i dont think you have a point.

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; you compred LF to FSF

19:06 matey; this was about the fsf being turned into a generic brand.

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; FSF: 2007

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; FSF 1985I mean

19:06 matey; yeah and youve nitpicked a lot of irrelevant shit

19:06 schestowitz[TR]; LF: 2007

19:06 matey; so what?

19:07 schestowitz[TR]; LF is an opportunist

19:07 schestowitz[TR]; created for opportunism

19:07 schestowitz[TR]; unlike FSF

19:07 matey; just because you can point to inconsequential differences doesnt mean you have a point

19:07 schestowitz[TR]; there are loads of differences

19:07 matey; unlike FSF

19:07 schestowitz[TR]; you keep attacking fsf like it's the worst thing ever (I know, I know... you were a paid member)

19:08 schestowitz[TR]; *paying

19:08 matey; you keep attacking fsf like it's the worst thing ever <- irrelevant straw man, also untrue

19:08 matey; i attack it like its worthless

19:08 matey; i think i make very clear that osi is still worse

19:08 matey; this isnt an election

19:08 matey; im not saying "whatever you do, dont vote for fsf and let osi win"

19:08 matey; im saying "fsf has the same platform as osi, dont be fooled"

19:08 matey; its not a vote.

19:09 matey; you dont have to support either, and theres no point in supporting either.

19:09 schestowitz[TR]; if you don't try to work with fsf, you will have zero allies

19:09 schestowitz[TR]; and you will go nowehere

19:09 schestowitz[TR]; fsf is AFR from OSI

19:09 schestowitz[TR]; and from LF

19:09 matey; there arent any.

19:09 schestowitz[TR]; ok, so..

19:09 schestowitz[TR]; who do you colalb with?

19:11 matey; you dont get it, but that doesnt mean i havent answered it.

19:11 matey; if you were asking honest questions you would be able to answer it yourself.

19:11 matey; its tricky when you ask stupid questions

19:12 matey; you cant even tell how stupid and loaded that question is?

19:12 matey; this isnt esoteric.

21:37 DaemonFC; He actually always took over an entire room of the house, filled it with porn and Dungeons and Dragons games and a TV with a cable box, and he was in there all the time, except for when he got home and griped at us or came out of there and griped at us.

21:37 DaemonFC; I never thought I'd say this, but I feel sorry for Jan.

21:38 DaemonFC; But in a way, I also think it serves her right. She took over, she's wearing the pants because he's too afraid she'll ditch him too somehow and go live with relatives I guess, and she told him he wasn't "allowed" to have anything to do with his children.

21:38 DaemonFC; So she deserves to suffer with whatever bullshit he's doing now because I refuse to believe he ever became a nice person.

21:39 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], To not have to deal with dad too much, I devised a strategy when I was a child. Whatever homework assignment I went home with started at 5 PM, which was when he walked in the door.

21:50 DaemonFC; It really is a nice state park. I went there with John.

21:51 DaemonFC; Of course last time I got us the cheapest thing on Priceline.com and named my own price, and John woke up with his face in a huge cum stain on the motel mattress after the sheet popped off in the middle of the night.

21:52 DaemonFC; Then there was the chair I sat down in and a cloud of cat piss plumed up into the air.

21:52 DaemonFC; Don't book the La Quinta Inn.

21:53 DaemonFC; They had a pretty substantial hotel breakfast bar though. All the trimmings. Like, almost a restaurant. Weird.

21:54 DaemonFC; John's mom booked the Hilton and there was the Midget Convention and they ate everything on the breakfast bar the first day, so on the second day we raced down there and I got like three plates full of food and filled up my to go mug of coffee.

21:55 DaemonFC; Then the midgets came and got everything else about 10 minutes later.

22:00 DaemonFC; It's always good. They had prime rib on Fridays and it was actually Prime Rib, not one of those crappy "oh we got the cheapest shit we could find and called it Prime Rib".

22:01 DaemonFC; They're not thinking about how to get an extra dollar out of the guy who swings by and gets a breakfast burrito and coffee.

22:02 DaemonFC; "Don't get sick, and if you do....Please die quickly!" -Congressman Alan Grayson on the "Republican Healthcare Plan"

22:02 DaemonFC; Mom was lucky that if she was going to get COVID, it happened on July 1st when her Medicare started.

22:03 DaemonFC; And not a month prior when she had the shitty $8,600 deductible health insurance plan that was "Obamacare approved" at work.

22:03 DaemonFC; That's what most people in this country deal with now thanks to Obamacare.

22:03 DaemonFC; You pay the fucking crooks like $600-800 a month.

22:03 DaemonFC; Then you get a $8,000-$10,000 deductible plan for that.

22:04 DaemonFC; Then once you blow through that, which is 100% on you, it starts paying at like 70 or 80% of the "negotiated rate".

22:04 *oarion7 (~anonymous@user/oarion7) has joined #techrights

22:04 DaemonFC; So Trump said "You have to be hit by a tractor to use it.".

22:05 DaemonFC; Because if you're paying them $800 a month that's $9,600 a year, then you're on the hook for $10,000, then if you manage to blow through more than almost $20,000 that you, you cost them a bit of money, but you're still responsible for 20-30% of the remainder.

22:06 DaemonFC; They make a lot of money because everyone has to buy this shit and most people stay the hell away from the doctors and hospitals until they don't have a choice, which is what the deductible is there for.

22:06 DaemonFC; So it's a license to print money for the insurance people.

22:06 DaemonFC; And the poorest workers don't get mad because the government robs us to pay their health insurance.

22:07 DaemonFC; That's what it is. It's a grift, and it's the government wanting to placate enough people that there's not mass support for bringing the whole thing down.

22:07 DaemonFC; If nobody has to buy insurance, the price comes down. There's never been a case where a government mandate to buy insurance has brought the price down.

22:08 DaemonFC; In the few states where you don't legally have to get car insurance, the car insurance companies sell policies for less money to try to attract business.

22:08 DaemonFC; Even though there will be theoretically more uninsured drivers.

22:09 DaemonFC; In Illinois, they know that if a cop pulls you over with no insurance, you can go to jail for a year, so they use that to jack up the price. Suddenly you have to buy something that's only $30 a month in New Hampshire, so it's $80 for you now.
