this is my first post! hello! 😊
my name is Sunny. i'm a 26 year old who likes music, cooking, writing code, video games, TTRPGs, gardening, and fashion. my favorite color is orange. i'm a dog person (partially because i'm extremely allergic to cats). i love learning about anything and everything. and i think it's important to be nice ✨
i only learned about the small web fairly recently. i like the reasons behind it — simplicity, mindful curation, valuing humans over corporations — things that seem to be increasingly rare on the web at large. i've been browsing around it for a couple days now and it's really cool to see people just writing about things that interest them
i've been writing software for the web as my full-time job for nine years and a lot of things really excite me: CSS supporting new color spaces. federation becoming more popular. the ability to write full-fledged applications that, in theory, will work anywhere with no additional effort
but there are a lot of things that make the web less fun than it used to be: nearly every website loading several megabytes of JavaScript. WASM, cool and useful as it is, making the web more opaque. the proliferation of AI-generated garbage pages. billion dollar companies exploiting users for profit
so i'm giving Gemini a shot! i like that i can use a Gemini client in my terminal and things just work (my experience trying to browse the web in a terminal has been far from ideal). i've tried Amfora and Asuka so far, though i might end up forking one or trying my hand at writing my own client; both because i've read it's not too difficult, and because i'm kind of particular and extremely extra lol
i think i'll try posting here about different things just for fun. some topics i'm thinking of writing about are:
so. i'm happy to be here! i'm looking forward to writing my thoughts, reading other people's, and connecting on a small scale. if anything i write is interesting to you, feel free to reach out! i'd love to chat 🙂
much love,
Sunny ☀️
