Work got me a shiny new Macbook Pro with the M1x. On one hand: Yay, cool, shiny. On the other hand: eh, it's a tool, it does exactly what the previous one does.

I have a MacBook from 2010 that still does the job today. Even supports the latest MacOS! 路 3 years ago

If you're building client side software, a nice trick is to develop software on somewhat underpowered hardware. Then when your users run it on something fairly up to date, they are delighted with the performance. If you build software on the latest spec, you never get to feel what it is like for a majority of users who are behind the curve. 路 3 years ago

For me, a $5 microcontroller evokes far more excitement than the latest and greatest from Apple. It's now such appliance-tier stuff that it ranks alongside TVs and washing machines. 路 3 years ago
