So, I've been overhauling my vim setup while making a move to neovim, and realized I don't really LIKE my editor setup, I'm just familiar with it. In the process of trying to get what I would actually want, I found myself quite frustrated with the internals of vim. From what I hear, emacs sounds more like what I want. It would be quite the transition, but do any Geminauts have good starting resources and/or tips? Appreciated in advance!

Try Doom Emacs: https://github.com/hlissner/doom-emacs It defaults to use evil mode, so us vimmers feel right at home. I still use vim in the terminal fon small editing jobs, and on remote hosts, but I love emacs for org-mode, and larger coding edits. It's not a binary choice, you can have both. 路 3 years ago

I've used vi/vim mostly because they're installed everywhere. I'm not a power user, but I can get by.
That said, two days ago I started using emacs org-mode to write work notes in. Again, I'm no power user, but now I can get by in that too.
Emacs is the same but different. It has its own quirks.
I would like to offer a counter:
There is no perfect setup, only the one you are familiar with. 路 3 years ago

Slight off-topic, but "I dont really like X, Im just familiar with it" is pretty much the mood of life I think! 路 3 years ago

I hear Evil can ease the transition: https://wikemacs.org/wiki/Evil 路 3 years ago
