We actually consult with a couple blind people and have them ui/ux test our products. It's super interesting to listen to them use our apps via screen reader. They can quickly skim through a (well designed) interface by sound almost as quickly as we do by sight. They've got the screen reader cranked up so fast I can't understand it. · 3 years ago

I don’t as much as I probably should, but I like to make my stuff as compatible with different devices/OSes/whatever as I can, and I’m very big into languages and putting my stuff into multiple! · 3 years ago

I have literally no experience making anything accessible then. I have years behind me in web dev, but just as no one cares about stability, bloat, speed and other creeps, no one cares about accessibility 🤷‍♀️ · 3 years ago

Yeah. Generally I want my work to be usable for everyone. Specifically, I've known enough blind developers that I find myself trying to be especially mindful of their needs. · 3 years ago

To some extent.

I think about red/green colorblindness a fair bit because thats a significant portion of the male population (20% IIRC).

I try to make UI's simple to use because it makes it better for everyone. I try accomodate a huge range of zooms/screen sizes. Some people are still running 1024x768 or zoom in lots.

I try to keep HTML simple and semantic so that a screen reader or text-only browser can do a decent job - and so that its easy to maintain

I try to keep JS (or any blocking operations) to a minimum so that people with slow systems can use it.

I don't take it to extremes. I don't plan for the 0.01% of the population with disability X unless I know they will be using the system. · 3 years ago
