Well nothing could be further from the truth. I did none of those things. I simply got into fastboot-mode and applied an update from of my SD card. That update being the latest version of Lineage (Version 22). I was on version 21.
According to the instruction's you can't just update from one version to an other, you have to start again...
So what is usually a massive stress fest (Updating my phone) turned out to be (Not without it's risks) a peice of piss. I'm not sure I'd recommend doing it like that, I was prepared to take the risk and deal with the stress later if need be, I was expecting it after all and pleasantly surprised. But Lineage has always worked for me, I think it must be like the Ubuntu of Custom Android Roms. IT JUST WORKS.
Hopefull now I can receive updates again, I hadn't updated my phone for almost a year. That's nothing though. I've still got a phone with CyanogenMod on it. That hasn't updated since 2014 I think? Strangely that's a Motorola as well.
