Atoms - A Decade

05 November 2024

Ten years - TEN YEARS - ago today, when I still had dreams of being an Indie Game Developer or something, I released my first iOS game to the App Store. Atoms, a remake of a 1981 Sharp game that I later played on Atari ST before making my own version on Amiga in GFA BASIC (in three days).

It is now entirely free, but I did experiment with analytics, premium pricing, IAP and advertising along the way. I recall it made around £100 all-in for eight month's work.

It was written for iOS 6 using Objective-C and Cocos 2D, all of which are now obsolete! It somehow still works, but there is approximately no chance of me being able to rebuild it if it ever does fall down and stop working. Occasionally, I wonder about remaking it in Godot Engine, but only occasionally. I'm not doing online multiplayer again.

Ten years, though.
