The bitter cold of wintertime has always been good for my pains, personally. The trick is to hike until you're no longer cold. Fifteen minutes of absolute suck and shivering, then your body numbs up and you can just zone out and feel the cold wind nipping your cheeks.

If you ever read "the fall of the House of Usher", the way Poe starts off describing the countryside and the house, is basically a winter here. It is a challenge to keep the good mood, but I do take a daily walk, for contemplation and quiet.
