I made a little watercolor scene in my #Hobonichi yesterday. I can’t express how big a deal this is for me. I’ve avoided visual art for a long time bc it was intimidating. Turns out I just needed to give myself permission to suck and have fun.

@vantablue Everyone sucks when they start out at any new skill. Just keep at it. Have fun. Learn as you go. But that's already good, and better than I could do.

This is adorable and looks so serene!
Something I am quick to tell others (but not always myself) is that it doesn’t have to be good to be worthwhile, the act of creating is even more important than the result, so any art made by real living people is beautiful, regardless of if the results are what we want/intend.
Thank you for convincing me to use watercolors in my future hobonichi pages, too!

@riftings Thanks for the encouragement! It feels so good to do something like this and share it with the world and not feel like I have to apologize for it or be embarrassed that it's not 'great art'. I think I'm winning at self-acceptance. My therapist will be proud. :)

@orthoheterodox Thanks. I just used a cheap watercolor set and one of those crappy watercolor pens (with a water reservoir).
