The thing I don’t get is, what did these guys hate so much about the old system.

Like, lord knows it had its serious faults—and deep inequities—but these guys did really well, often as beneficiaries of those faults.

And Trump, well, I know he resents being sniffed at by Manhattan high society, but he was born rich, never had to work an honest day in his life, repeatedly got bailed out by daddy and personal bankruptcy, all the while getting away with sexual assault and similar abuse.

@tychotithonus maybe, but there’s a deep sense of personal grievance and victimhood which appears inversely proportional to how bad these guys actually have it

@_dm Oh, definitely - and amplifying and pandering to that seems like an efficient way to influence them.

But to your original question ... it's the only way to reconcile their self-perception with reality. They have to be the beleaguered hero for it to all make sense internally.
