I just sent this message to both WA senators:

Although I live in a rural area of Washington State I do not support the current president, his policies, or his agenda. In fact, I am greatly concerned he is taking, and will further take, illegal measures to achieve his ends.

For this reason I am writing to say I will vote against any current federal legislator who in any way furthers that agenda; even if just by voting to confirm his nominations or voting for a bill he supports.

If it is the only way, I will even vote for a candidate who doesn't represent my views – so long as I can send this message with my vote:

I don't care who the president nominates. I don't care how otherwise good a bill he supports is. I don't care if the exercise is ultimately futile! I want to see my representatives in Congress as a wall against everything the president wants and represents. I want you to use every tool at your disposal to frustrate him at every turn.

@jackwilliambell

In other words, "somebody let a liberal loose in rural Washington!"

P.S. I thought you lived on the peak of Mt. Ranier.

@dougmerritt

Funny thing? I'm not a liberal (big or small 'L'). I do support what many people would call a liberal agenda; but what I really believe in is true equality before the law and equity in the rule of law. (In everything, including economics.) And I believe racism, even casual racism, is a sin worthy of damnation.

I don't think there is a label for my politics, but I suppose liberals can see me as an ally in most things.

Oh, and I'm closer to Mount Baker than Rainier. But I am pretty far into the mountains.

@jackwilliambell

I don't know the area at all. But I joke about Mt. Ranier because my late friend (closer to "he was the father of my friend") ran climbing expeditions there in the 1950s. The first to do so to the summit, as I understand it.
