in software theres this term "bootstrapping" which means initializing a piece of software from a very minimal starting point, and comes from the phrase "pull yourself up by your bootstraps". But why don't we call it "sprouting" instead. I feel like that's a nicer way to describe it.

would also connect well to the concept of a "kernel" which is already common in computing
