Shopify’s Lütke and other appeasers miss Trump’s real agenda on tariffs

Does Shopify’s boss, or any other business leader, really believe Ottawa is negotiating with Mr. Trump over a trickle of illegal immigration and minimal amounts of drug smuggling?

By now, it should be clear the U.S. President’s persistent riffs on turning Canada into the 51st state speak to his true goals. Mr. Trump want to replace decades of free trade between two counties with a one-sided business relationship where Washington sets the rules.

@maleve I believe they aren’t missing his agenda, they know perfectly well because he keeps saying it over and over. It looks like they agree and want Canada to be taken over. Same with Poilievre, Moe, Smith, etc. They talk exclusively about the border, etc., because they can’t defend Canadian sovereignty or they will anger their own pro-Trump, pro-annexation base. Angus and May, on the other hand, are very clear about what this is about.
