@noboilerplate Obsidian is awsome! But also slow and closed source… Maybe I should build my own, Markdown based system for second brains using rust, tera, actix-web & TypeScript…

@jak2k It's not very slow, runs fine on my Raspberry Pi 5 writing computer 😄
Yes, obsidian is closed source, but my data is open, and there's nothing like it available yet. When there is, I can use the same files tomorrow as today! (I actually use obsidian.nvim concurrently with obsidian, works great!)

@noboilerplate You should see the startup time on my tablet… I had to install a plugin for lazy loading plugins to make it less worse. When it is started, it's reasonable fast. A bit like VS Code, which I replaced with Zed…
I don't know any other somewhat drop-in replacement. And I won't use Neovim on my tablet or phone.
My goal would be creating something, that is also usable from Obsidian. I think my approach will be a mix of template-generated Markdown and TypeScript.

@jak2k sounds like the plugins were the problem, not Obsidian?
I too had that issue, now on mobile I disable plugins all together, as I typically just want to capture.

@noboilerplate There are some plugins I need: Dataview, Chem, Excalidraw, Languagetool, etc. I can't disable them and my tablet is my primary device for that vault.

@jak2k yeah, same. Try out the "plugin groups" plugin, another good option for enabling categories of features only when you need them.
(I love language tool, but I often write the first draft without it, and if I'm ever offline, say, on the train)

@noboilerplate Lazy loading them works fine, but it's still all JS. Closing or switching a tab for example lags a bit.

@jak2k on android, I've been impressed by Markor and, especially, Zettel Notes.
Great for capture and simple features when you don't need the whole obsidian. Instant startup times for both. I use them with my obsidian vault!

@noboilerplate Markor is nice, but doesn't support Excalidraw…

@jak2k Yeah, but that's probably OK - use obsidian when you need it's features, Markor when you don't - it's all the same files 😁
