Last Friday I posted about taking a break from Mastodon (https://kevquirk.com/notes/20250124-0804) and since then I've checked Masto maybe 3 time and only really looked at my notifications.
It's actually been very pleasant. No politics, no moaning, no negativity, and no drama. I checked the timeline just now and all 4 of those things came flooding in.
Think I'm going to continue just checking my notifications. It's nice.

@kev I have a "low-noise" list which contains accounts that do not engage in politics or use sensational language. Monks, philosophers (those that want peace and improving ones life, not about figuring out what is "right"), artists etc.
Then I have a browser bar shortcut directly to that list and I avoid my home instance URL directly. It would be nice if I could make my low-noise list the my default Home, then I don't need the shortcut.
I also filter posts with sensational words e.g. N*zi.

@kev Then if I want to take a peek at the wider world... Ill look at my real home feed once or twice a week. It still blocks sensationalist keywords, but its amazing what politics still get through. At least its usually the milder version of it.
