Elon Musk and DOGE are now publicly targeting religious groups β specifically, Lutheran groups β for cuts.
Among those listed: Global Refuge (formerly LIRS), one of 6 faith-based groups that have long helped the government resettle refugees.
Not at all clear why Musk contends this funding, which is longstanding and well known, is "illegal."

@jackmjenkins So are Lutherans the wrong sort of Christians? (I was raised Catholic, I can't get my head around all that weird Protestant stuff. π ) Or is it that they're doing the wrong type of charitable work?

@beecycling @jackmjenkins They're using the money to help refugees, so definitely the latter.

@odessa @beecycling @jackmjenkins it gets a bit complex but these lutherans are from the more liberal/progressive ELCA branch of lutheranism.
within American lutheranism itβs basically them vs a host of super conservative branches like the LCMS and Wisconsin Synod (considerably more conservative of the two).
fundamentalists hate all of them but they hate the ELCA more because of the aforementioned liberal/progressive stuff.
