I went out to do some weeding while I had the energy, and as usual came in with a bit of a harvest as well. I'm giving in to doing all gardening via intuitive puttering.

I use #mullein (Verbascum thapsus) leaves and flowers pretty regularly but I only recently learned the roots are medicinal too. I weeded the volunteer mullein out of the asparagus bed and brought the roots inside to dry as an experiment.

Sending out a message in a bottle to find any fellow #salad nerds. That container of mixed greens is mizuna and red oakleaf, filled out with some chickweed (Stellaria media) and bittercress (Cardamine hirsuta). I am treating those last two as "volunteers" rather than "weeds" since they are both so full of minerals that they get listed as medicinal. (Also, they are delicious.)

Oops, realized there is one more species in this #salad : Miner's lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata), which is very sweet after a week of frosty nights.

@beandreams

That's one I go out of my way to grow from seed until it gets established. So tasty and the first plant I ever learned was safe to eat as a kid.
