I’ve had my gas fireplace on for over an hour, and it’s made barely a dent on the temperature. Can’t wait to get rid of it, plug up the hole in the wall and rid myself of the draft.
This year’s big project is a heat pump, and a snug draft-free house.

@katiefenn my heat pump made a massive difference to how warm my house is over the traditional gas boiler/radiator set up. I was also the only one in my family whose pipes didn't freeze when we had a really bad winter. Fully recommend Heat pumps!

@Research_FTW We think our gas boiler is 30 years old at this point. Just doesn’t feel right replacing it with another gas boiler now.

@katiefenn that's exactly what happened with mine. It was at the point where you couldn't get parts for it anymore it was so old and I didn't want another gas boiler. I did some research and a heat pump made the most sense, but most houses need new radiators too as they generally need to be bigger when working off a heat pump as they don't get as hot. But even then my house is still warmer than it was before.

@Research_FTW Yeah, I’ve heard that too. We’re probably going to completely replace our downstairs radiators and get underfloor heating downstairs. We barely use our downstairs rooms because they’re cold and drafty, so it won’t be a big outlay for us.
But once we’re done fixing the drafts and the hearing, it’ll be nice and toasty 🙂
