“The Crown” give up the claim to own the mountain, & now share stewardship of the park with the region’s iwi, officially recognising the peaks as tupuna.

Te Pāti Māori co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer spoke of the mamae – the deep pain – felt around the muru raupatu - confiscation - quoting #Parihaka leader Dr Ruakere Hond in Parliament:

“I tenei ra kua puta a Taranakii te herehere”

"Today Taranaki is freed from the shackles”

extremely relieved that the current NZ gov could not mess with the bill passing and that Te Pire Whakatupua mō Te Kāhui Tupua/Taranaki Maunga Collective Redress Bill now stands.
