trying out this punkt dumbphone. its a small overpriced candybar with thus far disappointing battery life but pretty birdsong ringtones.
it runs a stripped down android and supports signal via Pigeon. dm with a secret word or whatever if you want to be signal pals.

@Viss this is a test of my no-screen willpower, but i do like the nothing. im rarely far from a proper compute device so abandoning the dopamine sponge feels like a positive move.

@Viss @h2onolan OnePlus devices don't currently meet our basic security requirements and don't allow a non-stock OS to take proper advantage of the security features they do have. Our requirements are listed here:

@Viss @h2onolan There's no possibility of supporting their existing devices since they don't meet the hardware requirements. The only way their future devices could be supported is if they change their approach to security, prioritize it and add all the required hardware-based security features. They would also need to change their approach to supporting non-stock operating systems and provide more serious support for it where all the security features are available and work properly.

@Viss @h2onolan OnePlus had several devices which appeared to support using verified boot with an aftermarket OS but it was in fact completely insecure and not working properly. OnePlus ended up releasing firmware updates fixing serious flaws in verified boot, attestation and other areas which ended up dropping support for booting an alternate OS with the devices locked. This cut off the ability to do firmware updates for operating systems which had tried to take advantage of this support.

@Viss @h2onolan They have no truly official or production quality alternate OS support. If it stops working with a firmware update, that's simply too bad and it wasn't something they committed to supporting.
We can't support devices missing a bunch of the security features we need including hardware memory tagging and the secure element integration. We also need to know that they aren't going to drop support in a firmware update as they've done several times already. It's up to OnePlus.
