My workstation computer (Freya) has an old 970 Ti in it currently...I'm tempted to swap it for a 5700XT if they get to the $100 range at some point.
I vastly prefer AMD in my Linux rigs, and I adore that card. :)

@ann3nova just out of curiosity, does your preference for AMD extend to cpus? not for anything serious, im just an enthusiast and im wondering if there's a difference in ease of use in your linux rigs btwn intel and amd :)

@femmepraytell Not necessarily. Freya here was an AliExpress experimental purchase. I wanted to check out a Xeon and they were (are?) selling E5-2640s super cheap. :)
Honestly, my stance does lean toward GPUs...AMDs are not as headachey for me being baked into the kernel as they are.

@femmepraytell Overall, for me, stability is paramount. :)

@ann3nova heck ya, im just curious bc i use a 7 yr old acer laptop as my main machine these days, and id like to set up a workstation soon. theres usually a fair bit of old servers w a xeon or two in em around here for under 100 usd, so i was debating if i should work with that + gpu and everything or invest in a new threadripper and motherboard + gpu. and honestly, if you've got a good enough experience w the xeons, i think ill probably go w one of those :) thx!
