this also involved attaching the two XY rails (the Voron 0.2 uses this clever system where it gets two-dimensional movement using two linear rails that are parallel to each other, with pulleys)

we'd had those rails sitting on their extrusions since the very first work session, so it's nice to have them installed where they go

apparently - we hadn't realized this at first - while many of the acrylic pieces that came with our kit are clear, some of them are frosted black, presumably to make things prettier. it seems to work, and of course we'll be looking under the hood frequently, so we don't mind :)

the assembly directions made a note about if we're installing this ventilation mod, put some nuts here, see the vent mod's directions for details on what

so we went to check whether our kit has that mod, and verified that it does not (the kit manufacturer offers it as an upsell, but we ignored all the upsells on principle)

and we were briefly disappointed that we missed our chance to order it

but wait! why would we order it? we looked up the mod's site, and

yeah you can just 3D print this, that's the whole point of the mod, it's designed to be made with just printed parts, commodity fasteners, and a commodity air filter that you cut to size. fucking sweet

so the mod site told us how many nuts to put in, and we did that, so we can make it as one of the first things we print after this all works :3

see, these nuts, like lots of other nuts for the thing, need to be put in place before we tighten everything up, or else the whole thing has to be taken apart to be able to access them

it feels good to be on top of the overall assembly process enough to be confident we were handling that correctly
