Supposed to allow direct credit/debit card and mobile wallet payments, improved ticket vending machines, better fare gates at train stations, and better bus fare readers (among other things)

@wesley On the one hand, this is good. On the other hand, didn't they spend a bunch of money to upgrade the whole Breeze system in 2018? (when they made us all buy new Breeze cards)

@hydropsyche Did they? I honestly don't know. I was thinking it seems weird they just released a new mobile app too though.

It does feel like the current system is very limited and a more modern system that makes payment more flexible could go a long way in reducing the friction of riding MARTA

@wesley Oh yes. When I visit other cities with tap to pay systems, it does seem really backwards that we don't have that. But it also seems really backwards that we haven't had any rail expansion in decades. Charlotte's rail construction is booming. It just feels like More MARTA has been completely abandoned, and nobody is explaining why.

@hydropsyche @wesley the new mobile app is very bad. I was confused using it. Hopefully the new contract is to throw it out and just integrate with Apple/Android wallet with option for plastic card from kiosk, same as all modern cities.

@hydropsyche @wesley as an example of how bad the app is if you scan the QR code of some signs in stations advertising it you’ll be taken to a page saying the QR code tracking account has been suspended for nonpayment lmao
