This works on the Right not because people necessarily think DEI programs directly caused this - but because it articulates the more existential “truth” of MAGA: “Undeserving” people are being elevated, they are to blame for everything that’s wrong in America.

A significant portion of Americans feel under siege from an “assault” on their “real” (read: white Christian patriarchal) America. They have a visceral desire for someone to not just understand their grievances, but rage with them and for them against their enemies.
