Experiment: during my quest to retreat to a sane lifestyle outside of the bloated tech bubble, I've started to erase "contacts" on LinkedIn en masse.
The rule is simple: if we didn't cross path, or worked together, or exchanged actual conversations, it's an instant severance.
Then, I want to play with the result: having started at 1,400 contacts, I should ideally end up with less than 200, I'm curious to see whether the network itself will still be a complete crap as it is now.
Probably yes.

@m2m You may have heard of Dunbar's number. The maximum amount of relationships that we can comfortably manage in a social system is about 150. I still find this to be a good limit on most networks.

@meg indeed I knew about Dunbar’s. In this case though it’s mostly people that I crossed paths with in my various jobs. I might go to the point where I also remove the ones that I have zero in common with.
It’s really more of an experiment. My gut feeling is that I might end up erasing my account altogether, as I feel the site is beyond useless now.
