i called it, the military helicopter had its transponder switched off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBJpxq9WZ1E
not sure why they'd do that for what's supposedly a training flight nor why they'd have a training flight in such complicated airspace. you'd think that military radar would pick up a lowly regional jet moving in a predictable way, too. fucking dumbasses
it's also darkly ironic that this crash would happen at the ronald reagan airport. almost everything bad in the US goes back to reagan, and this is no different: deregulation and increased militarization. not to mention how he crushed the ATC union, which caused a generational loss of ATC personnel which they're still struggling with (though it's not yet clear if ATC did anything wrong)
and it's questionable to have so many military bases located next to such a busy civilian airport. honestly it was probably just a matter of time before something like this happened

wow and of course there's a corruption aspect as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4cJtMVNqZY
airlines lobbied to expand the number of flight slots available at reagan airport, which was incredibly controversial due to safety reasons and a number of near misses in the past. the safety issues were obvious enough that even one of virginia's senators was against it (the airport is located in virginia). but it got pushed through anyway and now we're seeing the results
